Is there a market for CJ McCollum?
Based on Pelicans are in the tax and have the record they have along with developing guard assets, what is the market for CJ McCollum right now?
He's 33, $33 million cap hit for this season and $30 million and change for next. His ORTG and DRTG are well off is career average, his TS% is down and is VORP is 0 right now. If the Pelicans are intent on extending Ingram, would they just dump McCollum for expirings and maybe 1-2 2nds at best?. Is he viewed as a 6th man now?
Youve got another younger, undersized SG in Simons w/ PDX that is potentially on the block as well who is young/cheaper.
Pistons: Hardaway + Moore?
Raptors: Brown + Boucher?
Lakers: Russell + Vincent + filler?
Curious what the board thinks.......

I'd say neutral to slight negative on that contract. Might be able to salary dump him, but I wouldn't expect a 1st let alone 2 coming back. He's never played any defense so if he's not hitting 3's at a decent percentage?

Re: Is there a market for CJ McCollum?
Some team that needs scoring punch from the guard spots (LAL, Orlando) might offer you expirings and a 2nd or two...I wouldn't expect much more than that.
His best role at this point is probably as a sixth man, but it's hard to find a team that's willing and able to pay $33M a year for a bench player.

Re: Is there a market for CJ McCollum?
CLT is likely looking to tank again at this point, but I still like him there..
Someone suggested SAS a while ago, and I really like that.
He’d be pretty great for Orlando. The overlap with KCP and Black/Suggs makes me wonder about a deal around KCP/McCollum? Likely a three team deal splitting whatever value KCP has? Orlando can afford the two year bloated contract and then ideally CJM is kept on a much cheaper long term contract..

I can't imagine he'd return a positive value package or even expirings. He has utility like Crawford and Lou Will, but you don't pay those guys 30 mil

I like him to Mil, for a swing on that backcourt reunion otherwise I don’t think he’s worth it to anyone else.
Somewhere trying not to offend Texas Chuck.

Pistons could definitely use another high level scorer. I'd just be afraid that he and Beasley would overlap a bit too much.

Would the Pistons offer Hardaway + Moore + Klintman + 2025 Denver 2nd?

Re: Is there a market for CJ McCollum?
I think the value's fine. I hope that if we did something like that it'd be part one of two. Ivey, Beasley, CJ, Sasser is a big crowd around Cade, and CJ seriously restricts our cap room. Meanwhile, forward would be looking pretty thin. I'd hope to move Ivey for something in the front court at that point.

This. I can't see many teams being interested.

Way too much IMO
I think that McCollum is close to neutral value. Most of the value that Detroit would give to trade for him would be taking on the extra salary (some this year, $30M next) so i wouldn't want to give up draft compensation, a rookie or a young rotation player
As an example
Hardaway + Beasley ($22.2M, then expire) for McCollum ($33.3M, $30M)
works on spotrac
This trade saves NOP $11.1M this year and $30M next year. If DET can save NOP a total of $41M is salary, I honestly wonder if the extra compensation shouldn't be going in DET's direction instead of towards NOP. I definitely wouldn't want to throw in a draft pick or Klintman on top of that.
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind

Beasley>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Klintman and a 2nd. That's an insanely bad trade for detroit. The guys top 10 again in 3's made and shooting 41% from deep.

Re: Is there a market for CJ McCollum?
I don’t see Orlando being interested, he makes too much and KCP isn’t being moved this season.
And even if KCP is moved, CJ isn’t a player that you go into the 2nd apron for.
I like Milwaukee as a destination.

I agree that Beasley is playing great, and is more valuable than Klintman + SRP. However, Beasley is expiring, I doubt he's with us next season, and I don't think DET has much reason to try to win on the efforts of its vets like Tobias/THJ/Beasley anyway.
But my major point is that DET should be mostly targeting trades where we leverage our financial flexibility to pick up assets, and I'm just not OK with taking back extra salary as well as sending out pick or rookies. We absolutely shouldn't be giving assets in "win-now" moves IMO.

Beasley is only 28. We should make every effort to bring him back on a longer contract.

The Pistons take on too much money to add a temporary help player. This doesn’t seem like a trade that involves the Pistons losing assets

I assume magic throw assets at simons or Sexton long before they even look at CJ. He is just way too old for our core. He is still a fine player, it seems.

Raps would need some incentive to take on the extra year.

CJ's contract will make the Raptors a tax paying team next year.
