Christmas Day 2024 Draft - Playin - lilroddyb vs Snakebites*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Sat Dec 21, 2024 9:01 am

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Please ensure you give a rationale for your vote; votes with no explanation will not be counted.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

We'll be using a AI vote when a matchup seems stuck. AI vote counts for a single vote.

C: Rudy Gobert 36 min / Kevin Garnett 12 min
Pf: Kevin Garnett 26 min / Robert Horry 22 min
Sf: Jayson Tatum 38 min / Dorian Finney Smith 10 min
Sg: Danny Green 30 min / Gary Payton Jr 18 min
Pg: Kyrie Irving 38 min / Gary Payton Jr 10 min

2005 Kevin Garnett 16.6
2024 Kyrie Irving 19.5
2024 Jayson Tatum 19.3
2022 Danny Green 5.2
2002 Robert Horry 5.7
2022 Gary Payton Jr 4.8
2024 Rudy Gobert 8.1
2022 Dorian Finney Smith 8.7

tfga: 87.9

All my guys are elite defenders outside of Kyrie Irving and all of my players are good shooters outside of Gobert. I think we have the strongest defense in the tournament and elite rebounding team giving us extra positions on offense

defensive matchup
Rudy Gobert on David Robinson
Kevin Garnett on Durant
Tatum on Mikal
Kyrie on KCP
Danny Green on Jalen Brunson

Best of luck Snake

PG: 23-24 Jalen Brunson- 21.4 FGA (All NBA 2nd)
SG: 19-20 Kentavious Caldwell-Pope 7.3 FGA (NBA Champion)
SF: 22-23 Mikal Bridges 15.3 FGA
PF: 16-17 Kevin Durant 16.5 FGA (All NBA 2nd, Finals MVP)
C: 99-00 David Robinson 12.9 FGA (All NBA Third)

B: Matt Bonner 06-07 4.2 FGA
B: Miles McBride 23-24 6.7 FGA
B: Chris Andersen 03-04 3.0 FGA

Total: 87.3/88 FGA

Brunson (38)/McBride (10)
KCP (34)/McBride (10)/Bridges (4)
Bridges (34)/Durant (14)
Durant (26)/Bonner (22)
Robinson (34)/Andersen (14)

There are some parallels in build here. My offensive pillars here are the elite playmaking of Jalen Brunson and the go-to scoring of KD, which is an offensive matchup I do not believe roddy has the equivalent to. 99-00 Robinson should form a great 2-man combo with Brunson, and the spacing around that pairing is ridiculous. I think my offense has more cylinders to fire on for that reason.

Defensively Brunson will be flanked with point of attack defenders at all times, with Bridges, KCP, and McBride all being very strong in that regard. Matchup-wise, Brunson guards Green, KCP guards Kyrie, Bridges guards Tatum, KD guards KG, and Robinson guards Rudy, giving him ample opportunity to provide help defense against KG.

Overall I think that Brunson and KD are an elite offensive duo here as go-to scorers, and that Bridges and Robinson are the ideal 3a and 3b options to support them. The rest of the team is shooting and defense. Broadly I think I have enough to carry the day here.

Roddy has an awesome defensive frontcourt, while I would say Snake has both superior top-end offensive talent and better supplementary scorers. I think 2021-22 as a 30-minute starter is a bridge too far for me, especially when backed up by 28 minutes of GPII which is 10 too many for me given his flaws. Meanwhile, DFS is massively underused based on his cost and quality; I know he's really more of a combo forward, but I would have bought him playing some SG more than the current allotments. The limited backcourt support for Kyrie just widens the offensive gap between these teams too much for roddy to overcome.

I prefer Roddy's defense and depth, but I think Snake's offensive edge is even more of an advantage. Brunson-Bridges-KD-DRob has a lot more juice than Kyrie-Tatum-KG imo.

Snake has pretty strong combo of Brunson/Durant/Robinson and not sure about roddy's minute distribution here as DFS is better than 22 Green, and too much Payton II. Vote Snakebites.
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change
