Nothing worse than a loser trying to build "winning culture." All he did was eff up the tank and strengthen the losing culture.

Mitch is the only piece that seems like a trade piece because he hasn't been playing and may not fit as well with the current play style but in my opinion he has a role in the rotation if he can stay healthy...yea, I know big 'IF' which he hasn't ever seemed to fulfill.
What ever happened to Jay Huff for the Grizzlies? Is he hurt or just out of the rotation? I'd love for the Knicks to somehow snag him as a stretch center who blocks shots depth piece. He can fill the role KAT does without the elite talent but bring some similar skills.
Basically, that says they might trade Mitch or Precious because Center glut and Precious isn't under contract next year and Mitch is extension eligible and maybe they don't trust his health.
These guys were speculating who possibly could be moved and the Knicks do have some limitations because of cap and apron rules. Unlike previous seasons when they had more flexibility, the Knicks FO have kinda handcuffed themselves somewhat for in season moves this year. Rose has been both obvious and discreet with his moves to date in NY so who knows what he got cooking yet take whatever cues from his time in charge.
I think Deuce, Cam and Precious are safe unless it's a no brainer for a clear upgrade, they are in the Thibs circle of trust, so is Sims to a degree but I think he's part of the available players. Mitch and Sims appear to be the most likely included in any deal but I am not excited about the depth at center spot if both are moved so it depends on what talent is coming back.
My impression is that Kolec and Huk are the keepers in their eyes compared to Pac given his timeline or any of the other end of the bench guys, just imo.
I'm actually leaning towards nothing happens other than out of the rotation depth like maybe TJ Warren type insurance move. I wouldn't be shocked if no trade of any significance happened, a quiet deadline for once as hard as that may seem.

I would tend to agree if Donte hadn’t been traded. We have a clear glut at the center position, but Precious isn’t big enough and Mitch isn’t healthy enough to be a permanent solution. If either one were a potential permanent solution, I don’t think we would be hearing the continual rumor chatter. However, the Donte trade proves this front office is not shy about pulling the trigger on moves that can make the team better now and over the next 2-3 year window. Outside of our top 4 and probably Deuce / Hart, it’s hard to make any strong statement about who will or won’t stay.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but Ben Simmons would be exactly what we need for the 2nd unit…passing , defense, size at 6’10 …. Perfect fit with miles, Payne in that bench unit … He will be a buyout candidate and don’t think he would mind going to a contender while not relocating this life to another city for the year

As a first apron team Ben makes too much for us to sign him if he's bought out. We can only sign guys that make less than $12.9 million prior to their buyout.

Developing Pacome, Kolek and to a lesser extent Huck is going to be important over the next 3 seasons. We only have access to one first rd pick over the next 3 drafts and likely will not have access to a mid level exception for the next 3 summers. Combine that with a top heavy payroll and we are going to need to find players in the margins to round out the roster. We will get 1-2 min guys each year similar to Payne looking to have a bounce back year for a new contract. But we have to rely on trading up into the top of the 2nd rd and developing those guys into rotation pieces.
For what it’s worth I’ve been very impressed with Pacome. I don’t see why he can’t give us 15-20 minutes most nights with above average defense and average catch and shoot ability. (Ie averaging 7 ppg shooting 37% from 3 on 4 attempts per game)

What is Mitch worth when he comes up for a contract extension and do the Knicks want to pay it?
Who the Knicks trading Mitch for?
Who the Knicks trading Mitch for?

Those are the two pieces of value, unless the Knicks want to package Kolek and Dadiet for some young cheap vet and there's no one I can think of making 4 million or whatever their combined salaries is. I'll assume the trade can get balanced with some euro rights.
So, it'll be Mitch or Precious.
Knicks seem to have prioritized guys who play more than one position.
Precious is a 5/4
Mitch is just a 5
Or, they want Mitch to fill that 15 mpg of shotblocking offensive rebounding.

My bet would be one or both of Sims or Precious, and it would probably be for second rounders. One or both of them are going to be out the rotation once Mitch returns and neither have long term contracts. Maybe the Knicks can figure out how to keep one of them, but I doubt they keep both just for a playoff run.
Second rounders for an apron team are really valuable because you can go over the apron hard cap to sign them.
It’s no where as interesting as last summer, but in the long run it would be the right move.

Precious is on a 1 year contract and I don’t think we can even offer an IHart contract unfortunately. I think the Knicks need to be ready to move him.
Mitch’s contract is also descending so having him as a starter level player with a below MLE 12 million contract next year is huge. He still might get moved next year since he’ll be expiring then but I think Sims or Hukporti might need to be ready to take over in that case. I don’t see him getting moved until they rebuild his value though. We have too many needs so we can’t just dump dudes randomly. I see some parallels with the Quickley situation where we didn’t dump him randomly for Donovan Mitchell but traded him at the peak of his value for OG.

The old adage that a guy coming back from injury is as good as a new acquisition, could prove true in the case of Mitch. With the big caveat that he comes back healthy and remains healthy
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

Honestly I don't think there's a great place for Mitch on the team. Precious is not the rebounder he is but Mitch is a poor finisher on all but some lobs. He's slow footed and bad at most things offensively. I guess you can say keep him in case you play Cleveland but I have a hard time thinking that he makes a difference in a series. That Cavs series was an aberration kind of. Cavs won't be inept again in the playoffs and if they are, they'll lose anyway.

Brunson was horrific yesterday. Gets swept under the rug because we won. But he really was awful, not going to look past it personally.
He has no business taking that last shot with Mikal going nuts. Then he tosses the ball to OG in another terrible play. We just got lucky, and Hart did his thing. Without the luck and hustle, Brunson basically gives the game to the Spurs because he's playing to win it himself. Unacceptable!
But yeah it was knee-jerk (empahsis on the jerk) which is what this thread is for
