I don't believe the Pelicans will be able to hold their top spot. Out of the bottom 5 teams, you could argue they have the most talent even outside Zion. They have decent depth plus multiple players with playoff experience.

Might have already been said but OKC was egregiously tanking just a few years ago, so bad that some pundits were calling for them to be punished. But look at them now.

Our FO has shown no sign of being as competent as OKC yet but this is year one for them. I'm willing to see how it plays out first even if it will be pure pain on the eyes.

they would still be tanking had we not stupidly traded sga for miles :banghead:

Sounds like a copy paste quote from 2011 as we were in the midst of blowing up another trash core and welcoming MJ as a new owner and the Thunder were an up and coming dominant team with MVP youngsters. Some things never change I guess

Of all the dumb crap we've pulled over the last two decades, this one remains my personal least favorite as I loved SGA as a prospect and hated Miles.

The good news is we are in a tremendously better position than we were 14 years ago. We were able to trade two middling guys that didnt wanna be here for FRP. The way things are looking, those picks will be valuable. The Heat pick probably won't be used till 2028 but it could still be a great trade asset. I have a good amount of hope for the Mavs pick being valuable as hell. The Mavs are a injury prone player being injured again from being a bottom feeder team and us cashing out on that pick. Plus already old players in Kyrie and Klay will be two years older.

We also have some decent tradeable assets with guys like Miles and Richards and a strong but admittedly frustrating core of LaMelo, Mark, and Miller.

I hated Cho but I admit he started with nothing in 2011. A savvy enough front office should be able to make something out of what we have now.

1. Miller was expecting him to take that next jump. He looks like the same player from his rookie season. Didn't really improve on anything.
2. Salaun legit thought he could be a rotation piece. He looks so unorganized this might end up being a bad pick. Hope I'm wrong.
3. Green he's trash. Almost useless on the court.

1. Micic - probably the worst player in the league and I was expecting a solid backup that could thrive in an uptempo system similar to pre-2025 Melo.
2. Miller - didn't really take the big step I was hoping for in production, skillset, or in his body
3. Melo - i don't really care about the ppg, allstar votes, highlights, whatever, his bball IQ/decisionmaking has regressed markedly from years past. he's turned into a straight up braindead chucker and i fear this year is causing permanent damage to his ceiling as a player but we'll see. its not all bad though, he seems stronger and bit better defensively
4. Salaun - didn't expect a lot given the draft but its never great to see a 6th overall pick that is an absolute disaster on the floor
5. Green - expected a playable role player and got a scrub

Miles I didn't have any expectations for so whatever
Mark I expected to be a medical retirement so very happy there
NSJ/Richards/Cody/Seth/Diabate/Gibson I didn't expect anything

Nick Richards led the league in moving screen violations. 69% FG last year to 56%. Even FT% dropped 73.7 to 67.8. Turnovers nearly doubled per 36 from 1.5 to 2.7. I had hopes he'd command 1st round value. He plummeted. Huge contributor to the losses in Mark's absence. And possibly part of the reason they passed on Clingan and took Salaün. They believed in Nick based on last year's highmarks.

In Cody's last full season (71 games) he shot .482/.384. down to .441/.325 and back to being a zero on offense not a 2-way force we hoped he'd become. He's 29 and it's over for him.
