Franz was gasping pretty hard for air at the end of the game.

I didn’t even realise we had a game on today. What happened to Suggs?

Nevermind just saw the box score and that he was in foul trouble. Good to see some bodies returning.

There was one play that made me think of what this team could play like. During our stream at the end.... Cooking Franz had the ball at the top of the three.... Paolo went to sent the screen.... Slipped the the screen ... They doubled Franz .... Franz threw the ball out to just outside the right elbow.... Paolo went full steam and drew Duran.... Up goes the ball for the Wendell dunk!

Paolo didn't reset and start dribbling like I feel like he usually does.

That was one of the highlights of the game for me!

Apparently it's much easier to win basketball games when you can actually hit 3s, who would have thought? great to see Franz dominating in the 4th quarter, I was a bit worried when he struggled offensively a lot in the first 3 quarters and his 3 point shot was trending down before his injury too, but this flurry late was very encouraging. Good to see us getting to the line so much too.

Still a lot of things to clean up offensively, we play too slow and turn the ball over too much, but this win was badly needed for the morale and to stop the free fall in the standings.

I hope Suggs's injury is not serious, but it didn't look good.

I've been out of town and haven't followed the Magic in over a week. This is the first thing I saw today when I fired up the forum. I just had to laugh.

Oh I had Cade as 1-7 guess I need to get my eyes checked.

Seriously I know offense is easier to see with your eye, but if people can't see what AB brought that game defensively against Cade IDK what to say. I know we need offense, but getting stops will always be almost the same value as scoring. It's just math.

Box score thoughts:

Orlando won the FG% battle and won the game.

And it's that simple. Orlando's shooting was the reason the Magic won. No other reasons.

In conclusion: shooting matters.

p.s. 18 missed FTs; was the Magic trying to lose the game?

Yup. If you think about value in two dimensions, offense and defense, falling in the upper left quadrant is just as valuable as failing in the lower right. Scrubs in the lower left, two way players in the upper right. A sophomore falling in the upper left or lower right is really damn good.

Other fan bases think Paolo and Franz are 100%. They each spent a couple of months where they couldn't touch a basketball or run.

Yup, and I'm not refuting that offense is more valuable. It almost always will be. But for how close offense and defense are in value the pendulum is swung way too far in one direction. And I think it's because it's simply harder to quantify good defense, both with the eye and with stats.

Make no mistake, I don't think AB has been a net positive or anything crazy this year. But people will be saying he is having a garbage game and he will have a guy like Cade at 1-8 shooting and no mention of it.

Clearly that 4 minutes was pivotal in locking him down for 35 pts and more assists than our PG gets in 3 games

I mean beside the fact that this totally misses the point...

35 on 31 shots 7 free throws and 5 turnovers is not great. 51.3 TS% for the game. I know Cade is asked to do a lot, but you're not winning many games in 2025 with your best player taking that many possessions at a 51 TS%.

And also the guy who played PG primarily on offense for us this game had 7 assists and 1 turnover. I'd say our PG won the battle even though he's listed as a 3.

Our defense made Detroit shoot worst than us

Conclusion: Defense Matters
