One Time Draft R1 - flaco vs. Laimbeer*

Post#1 » by Fadeaway_J » Mon Jan 27, 2025 8:04 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

Best of luck, Laimbeer!

Rotations
PG: Chauncey Billups (38) / Pablo Prigioni (10)
SG: Clyde Drexler (38) / Keith Bogans (10)
SF: Jayson Tatum (38) / Detlef Schrempf (10)
PF: P.J. Tucker (24) / Detlef Schrempf (24)
C: Moses Malone (38) / P.J. Tucker (10)

Offense
The big 4 should provide enough firepower. Billups and Tatum thrive both on and off the ball. Moses isn't ball dominant either excelling at rebs and putbacks. Drexler should see enough time on the ball to maximize his effectiveness. Peak Schrempt off the bench is a game changer who complements Drexler's slashing game.

Defense
Moses drops back to protect the rim. Tucker and Tatum take turns on KG. No need to follow him on the perimeter since KG lacked 3pt range. Moses should always be close enough to provide defensive cover around the basket. Ewing cannot force him to step outside the paint. Billups, Drexler and Bogans share POA duties. We go under the pick against Penny who's an unreliable 3pt shooter. Wing D should be strong with plenty of switchable defenders to throw at Pierce.

FGA

1991 Clyde Drexler 16.3 Image Image
2024 Jayson Tatum 19.3 Image Image Image
2018 P.J. Tucker 5.4
1983 Moses Malone 16.7 Image Image Image Image Image Image
2013 Pablo Prigioni 3.0
2011 Keith Bogans 3.7
1995 Detlef Schrempf 12.2 Image Image

Good luck, flaco.

Patrick Ewing ( 1989 ) 16.0
Kevin Garnett ( 2005 ) 16.6
Paul Pierce ( 2005 ) 14.9
Doug Christie ( 2003 ) 7.0
Anfernee Hardaway ( 1996 ) 14.8

Isaiah Hartenstein ( 2024 ) 4.9
Toni Kukoč ( 1996 ) 9.7
Delon Wright ( 2022 ) 3.5

87.4

Patrick Ewing (38) / Isaiah Hartenstein (10)
Kevin Garnett (38) / Toni Kukoč (10)
Paul Pierce (30) / Toni Kukoč (18)
Doug Christie (38) / Paul Pierce (10)
Anfernee Hardaway (38) / Delon Wright (10)

We have a very talented starting five offensively with Kukoc a major addition off the bench. flaco has a real problem with his interior defense. PJ is a good defender but he doesn't shine as a four. Detlef is not good. Moses is not an elite rim protector. These guys cannot go against Ewing, Garnett, and IHart.

Ewing/Malone, KG/Tatum, Pierce/Tucker, Christie/Drexler, Penny/Billups are pretty solid defensively.

Kukoc and Detlef give both teams excellent bench anchors, but Bogans and Prig are sub-standard and leave them vulnerable up front.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Went with Laimbeer due to superior frontcourt defense and back-end depth.
