Honestly this trade and situation and how it went down, this whole thing feels so disgusting and wrong.... I'm a HEAT fan with no dog in this fight... and I feel like the NBA should step in and ask the mavs owners WTF are you doing, and veto this crap

I hope all lakers games tank in the ratings, and when the NBA pushes them through for another Lakers vs Celtics Finals, I hope nboody watches

I agree the league should look into it but they can't veto it...the CP veto was based on the league owning the team doing the trade...its like the owners vetoing the GM essentially.

if the league vetos this it would be akin to telling a company what they can do with their assets. the only way the league would veto it is if they could prove something nefarious and illegal occurred OR if they thought doing this would hurt the league...

this HELPs the league...but hurts the mavs... I hate this for the Mavs fans but the owners are within their rights to do dumb stuff....the wiz gave Beal a super max with a no trade...the league should have stopped that if they league just stopping dumb teams from doing dumb SHEEEEEEEEEEEt

It's possible the Mavs owners trusted Nico and now realize what a dumb move this was. They might want a re-do

This makes me very happy. I need him to be angry, and hope he goes on the biggest f*ck you tour the league has ever seen. He gets in ridiculous shape, he takes in all the durability tips from LeBron and just starts pounding ass in the purple and gold.

Nope.

Nico, in the presser, said this all started last month, when he and Pelinka were having lunch, and Pelinka asked him "Would you ever trade Luka?".... Nico then started to wonder, "hmm, would I??"

This was Pelinka's dream, planted in Nico's head as a good idea, from his mentor and friend of 20+ years lol.

Just watched the Rob press conference and he confirms Nico is the one who approached Rob

Lebron was more popular than Luka when he left the Cavs. He was selling more merchandise. The Mavs will still sell far more merchandise with Kyrie and Davis than the post-Lebron Cavs could. Kyrie is still massively popular around the world. The Mavs also have some semblance of hope to earn playoff revenue unlike the Cavs post-Lebron.

There is almost no way the Mavs will be more damaged financially than the Cavs were when Lebron left.

OHHhHHHH we talking degrees of damage. that's like comparing the death tolls of Hiroshima vs Nagasaki...I remember having that debate when I was a kid in Japan in an American school....the teacher was like...they both got nuked so it doesn't matter....

so the cavs got nuked and the mavs got nuked....both franchises got screwed... but I get your point

Lebron was legit the biggest star in Cleveland and Luka isn't the biggest star in Dallas...I would wager that Luka gets less press in Dallas than the cowboys and maybe even less than Jones and maybe less than Dak so yeah...

but my point is the mavs lost a ton of market value and a ton of fans with this trade...cavs prob lost 40% of their value and the mavs lost 30% but they both got nuked

But we actually know some rough numbers from when Lebron left. While Forbes is not the be-all end-all they approximated the Cavs lost $121m in value when Lebron left (almost exactly 25%). You said that the Mavs would lose at least 30% in value and that wasn't "hyperbole". So unless you actually have run the numbers I don't know how you can claim that 30% is not hyperbole when we have an actual real life example of an even bigger star leaving his team and we have some idea of what it cost them (less than what you are claiming the Mavs lost).

we can't run the numbers yet...the fans haven't canceled ALLLLL their tickets yet. I agree Lebron was bigger...honestly Lebron WAS the economy in certain areas with restaurants and bars etc...merc...but I would say it's going to be close to 20+ % churn on tickets ...btw apparently Lebron was work 250 million not 121m when he left cavs...so worse than you said...but estimates coming in that Luka was worth 750 mil to mavs...the mavs worth more than Cavs...so while agree with you...its still a massive drop in value by doing this dumb move... so 25 or 15% of your value being lost intentionally by a company is crazy regardless

You know 'for sure' that he's not staying with the most storied franchise in the NBA? A guy who was rumored to favor either the Lakers or Heat if he were ever to leave Dallas? A guy who came from playing for a club like Real Madrid? Who has some bias towards the Lakers because of Kobe AND Lebron?

Tell me, how many superstars have ever willingly decided to leave the Lakers?

I'm afraid this is wishful thinking. He's going to re-sign with LA.

Rob Pelinka is the sole person responsible for orchestrating this trade. He took advantage of his close friend Nico, who was not great of an executive before coming to the Mavs. Rob knows his weakness and played right through his mind during the summer.

I don't believe anything Pelinka says.

I do believe Nico, though. He may not be very bright, but he seems like a genuine and honest person.

The "Hmm, I don't know, would I?" was Nico thinking to himself, after Pelinka asks him if he would ever.... (Trade Luka)

when Luka is so fit that I can see his chiseled abs through his jersey when he throws down a two hand dunk on AD his conversion to the Dark Side will be complete

I'll be screaming for Luka to drop 82 on the Mavs. Perfect in every way, would even honor Kobe.

I was a Mavericks fan since the inception of the franchise. Was a fan since the beginning.

I am no longer a fan of the Dallas Mavericks. I am now solely a Luka fan. Therefore I will pull for any team Luka plays for.

Go Luka! Go Lakers!!!!!!

I would LOVE to see Luka end up in Denver with Jokic. They would destroy the basketball universe!

Luka doesn't need Jokic...honestly the top 5 guys - Luka, tatum, Giannis, Jokic and SGA should intentionally NEVER team up so that they can fight for the throne - this will make these 5 guys better IMO than any of the guys like LBJ or Shaq or Kobe or Steph or KD or Kawhi or AD or Wade OR anyone else that attempted to hack the system and team with another top 5 guy. Duncan and Hakeem and MJ get extra honor because they won by conquering the world as is using the resources available to win...vs going and getting another top 5...

if Luka teams with Jokic and wins a ring...that ring will be nearly worthless....you should win when got two top 5 players...especially when one of those guys is the BEST GUY ON EARTH in Jokic...

WHICH IS WHY DIRK GETS EXTRA CREDIT FOR BEATING THE HEATLES! with the LBJ, Wade and Bosh....come on man...luka don't need them

Point taken

I agree it's a better league with better entertainment value when the top players are competing against each other vs ganging up and not making for a fair and more interesting fight.

I also agree Luka doesn't need Jokic.

Agree on Dirk. The 2011 Mavs don't get their due IMO. It was an epic run, not just the Heat in the finals. They swept the 2 peat Lakers and that WITH a healthy Andrew Bynum. Beat the Durant Westbrook Harden Thunder in the WCF. I literally saw every second of that Mavs entire post season run. Did not miss a single minute. Best sports ride of my entire life.

I double checked the forbes article and they said IF Lebron left this year it would be 250million based on inflationary numbers...so I apologize you were right....and it's too new with Luka...estimates are 20% of mavs value

think they will add a provision in the CBA called Harrison rule, to avoid this malpractice to happen again.
So Nico will be remembered the same way Ted Stepien is now.
