You can trade into MLE's now?
Maybe part of a trade exception otherwise?

Knicks traded all picks once market reset. It really hurts right now. We better have high value on all our players to rebuild if this doesn’t work out.

We've got to stop doing this with the Mikal trade. The Knicks got a perfect two-way player for their team, incredible intangibles, in his prime, making borderline starter money for 2 years.

They gave up zero talent, and only picks. The trade was not at all the massive risk or overpay people worry about when comparing the total pick compensation to the Doncic or Fox trades. The Bridges trade was a pure addition, no worries about production that was given up, how the direction of the team will change now, or anything. Just a top 50ish player in the league to tack onto their established roster.

Our best bet is the buyout market.....maybe we can pick up a solid veteran there.

Completely agreed. Keep in mind Memphis offered 4 FRPs for Bridges at the deadline last season but Brooklyn declined. Houston supposedly also made some strong offer with picks and young players in it but was turned down. I'm completely down with the Bridges trade....

yeah the whole 5 1st round picks is a lazy argument to be honest.

2 of those 1sts are conveying this year...both picks likely to be in the 20's. Not high value 1st rounder.

So that means you have 3 potential worthwhile 1st round picks for Mikal. Not rotation player going out...very little risk of fit (which is odd for a trade of that magnitude). Also he is making 6th man type money for 2 years so his contract is elite for trying to win a chip over the next couple years.

Now lets look at the 3 1st round picks

2027 - very low risk (team should be mostly intact and still in there prime
2028 - swap (low risk...unilikely the Nets are good at that time to beat out the knicks)
2029 - medium risk (our core is still under contract for this year but they will be in there 30's
2031 - higher risk (knicks probably have a new core at this point) but if we sustain success over this time its likely we should continue to have options of players wanting to play for us.

And if we win a chip at any point during this time...who gives a crap

I mean downgrade from KAT to Randle was something...

In hindsight, probably. No one was expecting KAT to be an All-Star starter. He's definitely surpassed my wildest expectations. Old KAT is still there, though, with the TO and fouls, but I'm going to put some of that on Thibs and the injury. I still think T-Wolves are a top 6 in the West when the dust settles.

Randle is a fringe all-star type player. KAT might be a top-5 guy.
Would say that I am not sure I would trade him for Luka.
