Economically, I believe that the trade market is mostly flexible, so any player you can sign to an under-market contract adds value to your team, even if you don’t have him in your longterm plans. Like Randle, a good contract is a good contract, and letting players walk for nothing means you gained nothing from the Bird rights. You can always rebalance your team later, and often get some profit for doing so.

It might come down to whether there is traction around draft night on the Durant situation. If they feel they have a chance, I think renouncing NAW likely would be a prerequisite.

It’s a shame PHX and MIN are second apron teams, with restrictions in a sign-and-trade, because getting NAW would be a big help to them with Booker and Beal.

You could just sign and trade NAW. His acquiring team would be able to pay him using bird rights and save their MLE. Meanwhile we get value back that might help round out the trade. Though I keep coming back to Durant is too much cost for a one year rental. If we have to pay him 60+ to keep him or worse he just leaves and goes ring hunting with a team like NYK or ironically OKC, we would have sacrificed year of Jaden and TSJ or Dilly for one shot at a ring which frankly I don’t think KD is a big enough difference maker to win for us. KD is a robin, and Ant might not by ready to be Batman on a team without much defense (take away Jaden and NAW and have Rudy slip at all and your defense goes from top 10 to at best 15th.)

NAW numbers without DDV:
14 games, 9.3ppg, 3.8rpg, 2.5apg, 37-34-85.

1) in terms of accuracy I believe NAW can play much better alongside to pass first PG
2) I dont think he is worth more than MLE 14-15 mil per year
3) Clark can give us 90% of NAW production WHEN both play 3&D role

Good point. MIN should view NAW as 6th, 7th man in rotation, not 5th. His contract should be viewed accordingly. Assuming Randle is gone:

Ant - 45 mil
Gobert - 35 mil
Reid - 25 mil
McDaniels - 25 mil
DDV - 12 mil
NAW - ???
Clark - ???

I just don't see $20M in the cards for NAW, there just isn't enough free cap space to make that even a little bit likely. I can see him getting offers for the full non-taxpayer MLE and hopefully the Wolves go a little above that to keep him in Minnesota.

Teams can sign and trade.

For example, Brooklyn, Atlanta, Chicago and Sacramento all have trade exceptions over the MLE that could be in play.

He is in a great situation and I don't see him as a 20mil player. Look at guys that signed elsewhere KA, JMcL, and DLo. We seem to get the most from some of these role players.

I could see NAW become a commentator after he retires.

He is thoughtful and well-spoken, but most of all, he comes across as honest and authentic.

These days he needs a pod first. Guys like Draymond and JJ Reddick really had the right idea with that.

I think the two cousins could easily do a pod together

Really? When he’s good he’s soo good but when he’s bad it’s been bad. Last night against Denver felt like his first really good game in like a month. I think he’s cost himself a lot of money this season tbh which is good news for Wolves IMO.
