I mentioned this a month or two ago—the current trend is teams having a guy who can consistently generate good looks from three, either through a two-man game or in isolation. Defenses are responding by trapping him, but it’s tough to defend when you’re sending a trap that far from the basket with the floor so spaced out.
The better approach, in my opinion, is to let him drive or take slightly contested threes instead of overcommitting to the trap. Then, attack him on the other end to wear him down. Eventually, his efficiency will drop, and his team will have no choice but to let others take over the offense.
