What kind of package would it take to land him in a trade? I think every contender would love to have him on their team. Especially with that contract

Early candidate for MIP next season. I can see him go crazy next season and average 20/8/4 on a TS close to 60%

Avdija was paid the contract during his time with Washington. They failed to utilize him properly.

However, as expected, coming to the states took an adjustment, and so did being traded to Portland.

i'm aware of his career for the Wizards and that u guys gave him that rookie extention

I think it made sense for both sides, I get why the Wiz traded him as he didn't really fit their timeline and was already good enough to expect another year of growth would hurt their tank. on the other hand he's not the tier of player that's "untouachable" and would also eventually would have wanted to move on, as he's a comptitor whose used to high stakes games. getting drafted by a bottom feeding team, that's just part of the NBA and it's fine for a couple of seasons when ur young but eventually guys like Deni want to compete for something

he was indeed somewhat marginalized by the lack of team spirit and structure within the Wiz during his time there. from that weird season with Westbrook and Beal, and all the Barton type players who just aren't team players. it was rumoured that plenty of teams showed interest in him, perhaps the Wiz should have held out for a little more value because he's worth more than 2 1sts because of his contract. his contract is basically getting a prime level player on a rookie contract, that's about the most sought out commodity role player\glue guy archtype that contenders who are strapped for salary cap would kill for

but i get why they did it and they got a decent return

To me this wa never a great return for Washington, but they're not my team, and they need to do a better job at developing their players (which is well known)

Wizards get:

Malcolm Brogdon
Carlton Carrington (14th overall pick)
2029 first-round pick (second-most favorable from Portland)
2028 second-round pick
2030 second-round pick
Trail Blazers get:

Deni Avdija

Anybody that can evaluate talent knew this trade would be bad for Washington. Thankfully, Washington moved him because it was best for Deni.

I actually thought about this a lot. IMO Deni would've made GS an instant contender, even before the Butler trade. He just provides everything they are/were missing. Him and Steph together would be a nightmare for opposing teams because every time he drives the defense either collapses or he gets an and-1. Imagine a team having to choose between stopping Deni's drives and giving Steph single coverage. He would unlock Buddy too.

But honestly I think WAS probably could've gotten the best deal from OKC, who is drowning in FRPs and could absolutely use Deni.

I really wanted us to draft Deni alas he didn't remain under the radar as I'd hoped and went 9th. Glad we at least got Vassell at 11 but still I followed Deni's progress with interest and was shocked Wiz traded him. Decent return, and I get the thought he'd have hurt their lotto chances now, but really thought there were other ways to get there, like trading other players instead. Wish him the best. Still hope we get a crack at him. Always felt Spursy to me.

He does feel very "Spursy"

Maybe they did. But Washington seemed to want picks and the ability to tank, not already developing young talent. If young, already developing talent is what they wanted, then they could have just kept Avdija.

Yeah, Warriors have way overvalued Kuminga for ages now, but Myth is right, Washington brass knew the assignment and wanted the best possible chance at Flagg - they got that and then some.

Pretty clear that's why they moved Deni.

Best player on the Blazers and would be an awesome fit on a contender due to his declining contract. You can overpay a guy or two and have this contract fill the gap. Definitely a championship-level role player, though not a true star.

Wouldn't be surprised if they dumped him like Washington because "he doesn't fit the timeline." Nah, man, you gotta pay Jerami Grant.

POR paid a lot to get him and he has proven to be worth it and then some.

POR will want more than we paid to get him and that rules out most contenders.

A lot of people were asking why the Blazers acquired him when they "should" be tanking.

Sometimes you just have to get good players. You can do it through the draft, trade, or free agency. The trade made plenty of sense and he's still quite young and on the rise.

in 12 games post the all-star break he's averaging 20\9\5 in just 31 mpg

would have been hard for him to develop without getting the consistent mins he was getting for the Wizards and now the Blazers. he was 19 when he came over, dude needed to be on the court, playing against NBA players and he wouldn't have gotten that had the Dubs drafted him, imo
