Colby Jones, better then expected ?
Tsze-Kung asked, "Is there one word which may serve as a rule of practice for all one's life?"
The Master said, "Is not Reciprocity such a word? What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others."
~ Confucius about 500 BC

The Wizards are set with players SF, SG, and SF. Alex will develop into a better than average PF/C. What do they lack?
Queen
He fills the missing chain link. An unstoppable big man who passes. I think his defense will be fine.
Bye bye Beal.

I wouldn't be mad about Queen but I think Maluach would be a wiser choice.

I agree 100%. A better fit with Alex. Hopefully we'll get Flagg or Harper so the argument is moot.dobrojim wrote:I wouldn't be mad about Queen but I think Maluach would be a wiser choice.

AJ and Colby are exhibits A & B for why I was so opposed to signing Corey at 13M per year through 27/28, his absence is not noticed at all., and wasn't needed going-forward.

Since we didn't have either guy at the time, & couldn't have predicted acquiring either of them, it strikes me they aren't really relevant to that decision, no?
It's great to see Colby Jones playing so well. Another great low-cost acquisition!

What could and should have been predicted, is that mediocre Shooting Guards with limited skills like Corey, are replaceable, and potentially upgraded, whether it would have been AJ, Colby, Justin, a G-League guy, or this summers SRP.

Corey has had a solid season. No, he’s never gonna be a good defender but his 3 ball shooting is a weapon and he’s steadily improved his ability to get to the basket.
He’s certainly an NBA player…and his contract isn’t onerous.
I like what I see from AJ and Jones. But let’s face it, they’ve primarily been playing meaningless games against G-League level players, such as the teams fielded by the Nets, Philly, Toronto and Utah.

I hope this loser franchise passes in Queen and that he drops to #9, the Spurs. Derik and Victor Wembegyana should be competitive.
Bye bye Beal.

Yep, I never understood it. It was obvious by summer '23 and '24 that Kispert was a decent enough tool as a 3 pt option, but basically a busted floor pick. He could be a trade piece for a team that wanted someone who hit at 42% and 38% from the 3 at his best, but at the end of the day, that's all he is. We didn't hugely overpay him or anything and I imagine it was done to add another affordable contract with a skill we could trade, but it would have been smarter to me anyway for him to play his contract out and leave because there's never been much evidence that he's all that valuable beyond the 3 ball, and even there he's proven uneven (okay as a rookie, okay to a lil less okay this year). I would simply rather roll the dice with more AJ's, Colby's, Champaugne's, Jared Butlers etc, than dumptruck a pile of money on a guy we already know has immense limitations and limited value. Oh well. Just felt like a roster clogger move, praying to be a flippable player for more goodies when I just never thought he was that good to begin with.

Compared to who has Corey had a solid season? Corey shot 36.4% from 3 and doesn’t even rank in the Top-20 in 3-point shooters, and his percentage is down from last year. Sure, Corey is an NBA player, but he’s really an end of bench “ Specialist” worth perhaps half of what he is getting paid, he is not a player you lock up for 4-years, he’s just not that good.

Funny, I was just saying that in the Draft thread. Wemby and Castle makeup for many of DQ's deficiencies, and adds muscle against teams that go megabig.
