Draft Maluach
Trade Gradey for #16 draft Fleming
IQ Ochai BI Barnes Yak
Shead Walter RJ Fleming Maluach
Battle and Mogbo- we will never have a healthy roster
That's a roster with lots of defense to be our calling card.

I thnk he will go in the top 5. Hopfully the Raptors are able to move into the top 4. Rasheer Flemming?

think that's clearly the direction they wanna be leaning in as a team, which is a good thing. they'll need to be able to defend if they want to contend in future years.

Agreed. If you cant get a top 5 pick or Maluach trade down to Miami, Atlanta or Orlando. Fleming would be a perfect fit for our team. The other guy I would target is Moustapha Thiam, just turned 19, 7'2, 7'7 wingspan, proven three point shooter, 70% FT's, close to 3 blocks per game. Sounds like a Raptor pick.

That would be an amazing draft, I would be surprised if we we able to get a pick in the teens for GD though. I really like Fleming's game.

2nd half was an ultra weak schedule. Not sure you can read too much from team stats.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

I agree, but...
- Were adding Ingram, who can be a pylon defensively at times, maybe he will buy in tho.
- How can we optimize the offense??
Using DJs parameters...
Mar 7th to EoS, 25th in ORTG.
Jan 11 - Mar 7th, 16th in ORTG.
Oct 23 - Jan 10th , 24th in ORTG.
I love defense, but it feels like a league thats transitioning into more dynamic offenses, and zagging into a defensive structure isnt going to win.
To be fair, most good defenses this year are good offense, because the bad teams are just very bad, but im concerned youll become an ORL type, where the D is good, but you can only cap out at a marginally successful team as a poor offensive team.
Triple V, how are you dude? Are you still putting time into stats for this season? Any trends?
2025 is going to be a hell of year - have fun with it.

Raptors had the easiest schedule if I remember correctly and many teams were tanking so it's tough to gauge the quality of the defensive effort.

Im great thanks.
Ill probably do a couple deeper dives throughout the offseason here. Duffman brought me back.
I will give a caveat before I start posting things. This year is incredibly tough given a few things...
- Injuries/rest.
- The trades midseason.
- Developing, in lieu of playing to win.
- The addition of ISO scorer/facilitator.
- Any pending offseason moves/draft picks incoming.
I will say, im probably more optimistic than most for next yr, and im going to find some interesting things to watch for.
Hope all is well with you brother.

Everything is good thanks for asking. Seeing how this election goes before I really decide.
Looking forward to see what you have. This year felt like a waste for me but optimistic for playoffs next year.

Re: 3rd best defense for last 44 games
I think 3 backcourt players are D negatives: IQ, Dick and RJ.
You cannot hide all 3, probably not even 2. I think I'd keep RJ as he can do better on D, I have seen it at times. And trade one or both of Quick (IMO not strong enough) and Dick (looks lost on D) while they still have value.
I wouldn't trade RJ. His scoring will work in the playoffs. He can get by his man consistently. His is OK on catch and shoot 3s pbased on the eye test. He is a nightmare to defend. He can pass too.
Edit: I wonder if the improved D is due to not playing all 3 at the same time.

Re: 3rd best defense for last 44 games
I hope this carries over next season.
Like, I doubt we'll be a top-3 defense next year of course, but even if we're just 10th. We were 17th on the season this year, but if we improve to 10th and we have any sort of semi-tangible improvement on offense, it will be a far more enjoyable year.

During the last 44 games of the season, BI3 and Gradey Dick did not play as many minutes as they will to start next season so while these results are promising, the player turnover, player development, and minutes allocations for next season are going to put an entirely different set of players on the floor than those who achieved these results.
2025 NBA Draft Raptors Big Board (June 2025)
#9 - Maluach | Essengue | Beringer | Bryant | Sorber
#39 - Yang | Thiero | Gonzalez | Niederhauser| Powell
Do Not Draft - Queen, CMB, Jase, Demin

That's true, but it does mean that the likelihood of us being a bottom-feeding defense are less than the odds of us being a reasonable, mid-range defense.

I’m less convinced RJ’s offense will work in the playoffs unless he can superhuman finish through contact. They just allow players to get bodied on layups as long as defenders keep their hands up. It’s one reason why tough perimeter shooting is so important. But his constant rim pressure and playmaking is always a plus imo.

And the likelihood of us being a bottom 5 offense are less than the odds of us being a reasonable, mid-range offense (last 44 games our ORtg was bottom 5).
People only see us in 3rd best defense, but failed to see the trade off of bottom 5 offense at the same time, eh.

I mean, we project to be considerably better than a bottom-5 offense, for sure. If we have any kind of health, just getting Scottie out of the focal scorer role should help. And BI is pretty good, which hopefully will help RJ and others as well. Just having Quick back should also help a fair bit. Lots of things.
If we can be a Net +1.0 team, we'll be in pretty good shape for a solid turnaround.

When they played for NY, I remember the series vs. Cavs, a couple games I've seen, and RJ did OK while Quick couldn't put it together. Perhaps it was just on those games.
