Re: Nico Harrison decides to double down on stupid
Ok Nico, defense wins championships, lets ride with that narrative. Since he thinks AD's defense will take this team that was just in the finals to even higher heights, it must mean he thinks they can win now with AD. So do it.
Win a championship, I'm waiting.

This whole thing is like if Nico was drunk one night and someone bet him he can't bankrupt the Mavericks in a year.

Defense wins championships is one of the dumbest basketball slogans that otherwise serious people still say.

He love Kyrie. I can't conceive of loving defense and being a huge Kyrie fan.

People still refusing to believe this move came from above his head, I see. Last time I'm gonna say this.
If they traded him anywhere else, I might be willing to cite incompetence here, but you'll never get me to believe this wasn't a League-office induced trade.

Comparing Luka to Monta Ellis is nasty work.

So he's arguing you need defense to win championships, then why did he trade for a notoriously bad defender in Kyrie last year?
Also, how did two below average defenders in Luka and Kyrie lead Dallas to the finals?

I mean, honestly, I would respect that answer more lol
If he said "look I was hired as GM for connections.I over estimated my ability and did something dumb but there are no time machines in life so we need to make the best of it," I'd be furious if I was a Mavs fan but I'd have more respect.

Do you think he would be taking any less heat if the trade was Davis/Reaves both 1st and both swaps for Luka?

"There's no regrets on the trade," said Harrison, whose only other media availability since the trade was a brief pregame session the following day in Cleveland. "Part of my job is to do the best thing for the Mavericks, not only today, but also in the future, and some of the decisions I'm going to make are going to be unpopular. That's my job, and I have to stand by it."
"But our philosophy, like I said, going forward is defense wins championships and we're built on defense. And this trade cements us for that."

Rick Welts making the Bogut/Monta trade comp is… curious. Welts was hired by the Warriors as president after they changed owners. Welts was by all accounts, an excellent executive and even won an award during his tenure. Welts was instrumental in helping the Warriors move from Oakland to San Francisco. Welts is not a bumbling fool. I can’t shake the feeling that Welts’ long-term role with the Mavs will include a move to a new arena.

My understanding is Welts is super sharp but he is on the business end but not really a basketball savant. Nor does he think of himself as one (correct me if wrong.) And he was brought on to get the Mavs a stadium.
My guess is he can tell this trade is radioactive for the business and is reaching.

There are a lot of dimwits in NBA management positions. It takes a special sort of stupid to really stand out. Well done, Nico.
