It's a strange list, because Hali isn't that highly rated. Casual fans barely know him, he's not in advertisements, and he only once made an All NBA squad, in the 3rd team. So, I am not sure how he can be "overrated" unless the claim is that he's not good at all. Which doesn't seem credible.

I didn't think of it that way but you're right. And you can't say this is about money as he's not even on a huge contract by modern NBA standards.

If you're claiming he's overrated you're saying he isn't any good which is just nuts.

The players said Cade was the most underrated, the Hornets worst organization, and OKC had the best coach among other things.

The players were spot on in my opinion.

Aka 20% of the league, which is a relatively large sample size.

We know most of these NBA players are emotionally small, so it makes sense that this list is more about a popularity contest. Also, seeing some of those names makes me think a majority of the voting came from people with vested interest to put Gobert, Butler, Green, etc on that list because they definitely should NOT be there unless you just watch ESPN hot take garbage.

Probably some of that, but overrated is subjective. Gobert is a good player, but he is much closer to a role player than he is to an all-star. Only advanced stat simps love a player like Gobert because they think it validates all these esoteric stats only Excel spreadsheet lovers can appreciate.

So where is Devin Booker and Lamelo Ball?

Neither are "true PG" skill set players. I guess maybe Ball is, but he's seen mostly as a volume scorer as is Booker.

Even if the question is "most overrated" I think the answers may reflect more dislike than anything in reality. I mean Haliburton got 13 of the 90 votes. Haliburton seems like a pretty polarizing player so if say 6 Bucks players were in the poll they may have all voted Haliburton cause of the dislike. It doesn't say how the 90 votes was distributed per team.

I think we know that NBA players can PLAY but they generally don't know much about basketball from a cerebral analytics perspective. it's why players make bad coaches, GMs, commontators and analyst.

Examples of bad analyst
*Gilbert Arenas
*Perkins
*Draymond
*Shaq
Bad GM/Owner
*Jordan
Bad coach
*JASON KIDD- wow
*Doc Rivers
*Darvin Ham

its the reason why players think Hailburton is overrated and Giannis got one vote at all. Haliburton has guys like Dame that hate him but Dame has proven to be empty calories, not as bad but akin to Beal. also the fact that guys like PG13 isn't leading the list is embarrassing...

but this isn't strange - in the business world we say- "there are those than can make crap happen ...and then there are consultants"

the funny thing is the reason Coach Spo is probably so good is because he loves the game, doesn't have the physical gifts and had to look deeper at what makes a player good in his own personal journey and just transferred that deep thinking on the details and understanding of the drive needed to maximize his physical gifts AND thats what makes him be able to maximize the performance of the NBA players under his leadership....

the problem is, we don't know WHICH 20%.

I don't trust any overrated poll that doesn't have PG13 at the top of the list. that man looks like he can play basketball better than anyone on earth. can actually do everything well. good handles, shoots and can lock in on defense- good size for his position and is graceful as a ballerina...but is as useful to winning as a role player. honestly if you look at him and sga...there is no reason why Pg13 isn't or was ever as good as the best we have seen from SGA...but geez...

"NBA players" = 13 guys. Not nothing, but not exactly a league-wide consensus.

The poll isn't wrong.
:o LeBron is 0-7 in game winning/tying FGs in the finals. And is 20/116 or 17% in game winning/tying FGs in the 4th/OT for his career. That's historically bad :o

Haliburton got a ton of hype and fans after the NBA cup last season. Could understand that some players think he's overrated compared to his hype (also because his defense is bad). But yeah 13/90 is nothing crazy...

Can't really say anyone should look at the player base as a bastion of deep insight...

Because he’s not overrated, just hated on by opposing fan bases because of his success. Boston has won the most games since he’s been drafted.

This list has Giannis.
That alone is enough to make it laughable.

He was included in the team USA Olympics roster and that’s certainly the reason behind these votes.

It’s one thing to be on the FIBA roster when very few top players go, it’s another to be named to team USA when they’re actually trying to send their top players.

Thanks for the clarification. I don't follow olympics teams but yeah that's probably the gripe.

Nah, this is definitely just a “who do you think is a douchebag?” list, along with a random potshot or two.

Hali isn’t overrated, he’s hit a bunch of big shots, takes incredible care of the ball, and is sometimes a scorer, too. But he celebrates every big play by dancing around like an idiot. Big showboater, even if the rest of his day was weak.

Gobert has never been well-liked, often even by his own teammates, st least in the past. The whole COVID thing didn’t help.
