I would also like to add that this time last year, there weren't a whole lot of positive news regarding our farm. Some were injured but most were struggling. This year, I think its a little different. There's a few that has done very well and as you mentioned Sproat, McLean doing what they need to do.

We had some promising starts last year, mostly on the pitching end. Christian Scott, Blade Tidwell, Sproat and Jonah Tong all started out hot last year. Tidwell & Sproat struggled reaching AAA. Scott struggled reaching MLB. The hitters were less good last year, Gilbert & Jett got hurt and Clifford started out slow.

I try not to get too excised about prospects because it's such an unknown. Vientos seems to have worked out. His slow start this year is partly bad luck and his K rate is actually down compared to last year. Last year he struck out nearly 30% of the time, this year he's below 20% and his walks are up. His Babip is below 200, so Vientos might be fine, maybe even improved on last year. Time will tell.

Acuna is interesting. A slow (3 for 19 start), he's been 10 for 26 since then. He's a very interesting player if he can get on base enough. As for players like Gilbert, Clifford or Jett Williams, I have no idea. Gotta wait and see.

How is a low BABIP a good thing? Am I reading this right?

A high BABIP is a good thing, but a low BABIP can be an indicator that a players poor hitting numbers are due to bad luck more than bad hitting.

But over a full season, BABIP tends to normalize. Different players can have different normalized babips, speed and flyball/ground ball ratios and hard hit rate are all factors. But if a player has a higher than normal babip, the expectation is that their numbers will fall, likewise if a player has a low BABIP, the expectation is that their numbers will get better.

Best record in baseball. Still early though. That said, I do like our depth not only on the ML roster but also in the minors.

We also have Montas and Manaea coming back soon.

They're winning a lot of close games, so I think there's some luck involved, but it's great to see this kind of start. Attendance is up too, which should make Cohen happy. Not at Yankee levels, but a significant increase from last year.

I mean this is with Jeff and Francisco being out along with 2 starters, in 4-5 weeks we could have a 10+ game lead, Mets are the hunter this year not the hunted

This start reminds me of the ‘86 season which may be before your time lol

Francisco better come back with his “A” game. Torrens is playing very well with both the bat and the glove.

My birth year lol. Team has insane talent, not really hitting outside Alonso and Lindor. Rest will get hot soon enough and we got 2 starters coming back tomorrow. once Manaea and Montas are back, watch out.

Acuña would’ve made the play that McNeil couldn’t. I think they should trade McNeil.

The joy of being as casual as I am with baseball is i don't have a frame of reference for any of the newer guys to the team.

oh I have no doubt he will wake up and he is still getting on base...he just isn't driving the ball which I am certain will come. Its just taking longer than anticipated.

Raimon Gomez throwing 104.5 mph just now. Fastest pitch this year. He's not a prospect, 23 years old in A ball. Geezus.

I think Gomez was the pitcher that Wingo mentied several pages ago. A guy the Mets successfully hid from the competition so he sipped through rule 5.

Some early prmotis

Ewing is a fun prospect, probably in the Mets top 20 range, not a top guy, but he's hitting 400 and he's drawn 15 walks to 10 Ks. He's obviously too advanced for low A. He's also stolen 14 bases in 18 games. He's the type of speed/contact/OBP hitter that's easy to like if he can keep it up.

I don't know a thing about Marsh. He was an undrafted signing last year, barely pitched in 2024 but 2025 so far, 10.2 innings in relief, 14 Ks, 1 walks, 2 hits. 0.00 ERA, 0.281 WHIP. That'll play.

Marco Vargas was one of the players the Mets got in the David Robertson trade with the Marlins in 2023. Highway robbery considering how poorly Robertso pitched for them down the stretch. He dealt with injuries and time on the injured list last year, but he's cruising this year. Like Ewing, he's hitting 400, (409 actualy), with 10 walks to 7 Ks. Looking too good for low A. He aslo draws a ton of walks.

Zach Thornton, anohter one I don't know much about but he's got great numbers so far. Drafted in the 5th round in 2023, his numbers last year were so-so. over 68 innings, low A and high A. This year in high A, 4 starts, 20.2 innings, 25 Ks, 2 walks, 12 hits 0.44 ERA for the Cyclones so far.

And finaly, Ryan Lambert, drafted in the 8th round last year so this is his first full season in minor league ball. People at AA have raived about him some, saying he has closer potential. 8 innings in relief, 17 Ks, 1 walk and 3 hits. 0.500 WHIP, 1.13 ERA. The 19 Ks per 9 is nice.

And finally a shout-out to Jonah Tong, who's not been great this year, but his outing yesterday was sexy 4 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk 10Ks. It's be nice to see a few more starts like that for JT.

and in other, other news, the Mets got revenge against the Nationals, beating them 19-5 on 21 hits and homers by Vientos, McNeil and 2 by Nimmo to split the series, 2-2, though the 2 losses were nearly wins. At least it's a good ending, especialy after last night's ugly game. McNeil began the game in CF. Lindor & Soto left the game, but I think that was just resting them and defensive replacement for Soto with a big lead.

Jose Urena pitched a glorious save. 3 innings, 7 hits, 5 earned runs, but 3 innings and finishing the game gets him the save, it wouldn't have mattered if he'd given up 10 runs. He keeps the bullpen fresh for tomorow, which is a plus.

An eggselent article on Lambert

https://www.yahoo.com/news/rumble-ponies-newest-pitcher-throws-141050915.html

He was just drafted last year, so this is his first full season in the minors. Mets have drafted well in recent years, I think.
