Depending on if he can stay healthy and what the rest of the team does. It's worth remembering that we were the 6th-worst offense in the league. Adding a league-average-efficiency 20 ppg scorer will go only so far to fixing that. So the specifics of his health, and what the ripple effect of his injection into the roster will do for us will change a lot about our chances for the postseason.

Hopefully, him being on the floor causes enough of a chain reaction for us to get close to an average offense, and we maintain an above-average defense. That's a little conservative, given how we played over the last 40+ games on D, so yeah, if we can keep it together on O and BI can stay healthy, we've got a decent shot!

The fit he has next to the team and him filling the void of an iso scorer i think should have a pretty big impact on the offense. Gives another outlet for the offense and moves everyone down a peg. Allows you to stagger more lineups so you always have more offensive talent on the floor.

The addition plus some health from our core of RJ/Quick and Scottie and I think we can get to average

He's solid, yep.

Yep, that's the hope!

We have no traditional starting PG but our "top 5" guys can all pass the ball well and get 5/6 assist on any given night. So BI fits that way plus fills other holes.

Really looking forward to this offseason to see how the lottery plays out and what Masai has up his sleeve. We know he is always sniffing around top players when available, and this offseason has a few.

But I still think he does a smaller, sneaky trade.

What an absolute steal, and has already made an impact on the locker room. When players talk about other players the way Shead did about BIs talent, usually means they are elite. But of course I defer to realgm's analysis.

It would be hilarious and awesome if he randomly played like 75 games for us next season.

EDIT: Kinda like 09 Shaq with Phoenix.

I hope we draft a steal. If it's a SF that would really help us load manage Ingram for a playoff run. I feel like him, IQ, Barnes and RJ will take another step next season. The Raptors line up is pretty good and comparable to the Siakam days. Barnes Vs OG, Siakam Vs Ingram, and Fred Vs IQ. They aren't far off, I'd say they are better in some ways.

9th, Shead, Walter, Dick, Agbaji, and Mogbo is a decent bench. We need a few of these guys to improve and break through and we could be a very deep team.

Playoffs should be in Toronto next season.

Yep yep. If we hit on this pick we will be in a perfect position to make a consolidation trade. We have a solid starting 5 and we have decent depth.

We haven't had a decent bench since 2020.

Perfect position to trade two starters and picks into a big get.

Still gotta get a reliable backup C so our team doesn't cave in the non Yak minutes or when he misses games.

Honestly, I think we have more than enough SFs at the moment.

It's worth remembering that Scottie is a SF, so we have a full 30+ mpg just from him, because otherwise he's going to be a small 4 alongside BI. And beyond him, we have plenty of other choices. Backcourt is largely going to be IQ and RJ, with Dick and maybe Ja'Kobe and Ochai, maybe Shead. We played RJ some at the 3 this year, and we also have Battle.

100% this. Right now, our 5 rotation is what? Yak and Mogbo? Poeltl is the only guy classified as a center who played more than 35 games for us last year. Castleton and Robinson were good rebounders and little else. And Mogbo is mostly useful as a defensive presence, and is extremely limited on O, though he is still worth exploring a little more.

So yeah, a reliable backup center is a must. Ideally someone with some rim protection value.

I'm not sure why Barnes would be considered small for a 4. The four teams remaining in the playoffs have exactly one team that plays quite big with Randle and Naz at the 4. The other 3 mainly play OG, Siakam and Chet, who Barnes would be bigger/stronger or equal than all of them. Tatum is the Celtics 4. Mobley is pretty thin for a 4, and everyone thinks he should be playing the 5 anyway.

Even with the Wolves being quite big, that has not stopped OKC from playing JDub at both 4 and even playing small ball 5s against one of the biggest teams in the league. And they're the favourites to win it all now.

Our current roster makeup lends itself to playing Barnes more at the backup 5 than 3. It seems to have paid off in the long run for OKC who did plenty of it in the regular season during Chet's injury stint last season.

Because he IS small. It's more common now to have a 6'7 guy at the 4, but if anyone chose to play big, that would be the case. And despite his girth, Barnes is still considerably shorter than Chet and is still also shorter than Siakam. His power has proven somewhat irrelevant to this point in his career.

It wasn't a criticism, just an aside about his height.

Our current roster makeup lends itself to playing Barnes more at the backup 5 than 3. It seems to have paid off in the long run for OKC who did plenty of it in the regular season during Chet's injury stint last season.

It's an option, especially in a role where his shooting volume is reduced, for sure. But nevertheless, he's still a natural 3, and so that leaves us the option of playing him minutes there to spell BI for load management.

In all seriousness, there’s been a lot of claims that the Pels medical staff is fraudulent.

Honestly the disaster that the Pelicans have had in terms of dealing with and managing injuries for what seems a decade now is my main reason for hope haha

Maybe it's just cope, tho,I've heard they've gone through medical staff a few times. But could be upper management over riding decisions or trusting players to play through injuries

It would be surprising if it was just the medical staff, because he had issues with LA before them as well, not just with the Pelicans.

We'll see what happens. Maybe we'll get lucky and our guys, and some cautious strategy, will keep him heathy-ish.

I'm hoping for 65 games and health come the playoffs. I'm happy to call that a success.
