We weren't switching and leaving guys on islands, we were shading when Tatum had the ball early.
Mikal takes away the drive to the right, but if Tatum had seen KP was open, that was a three he takes and makes more often than not or a pass he makes and KP passes and gets us into rotation because Mikal is helping. When he went out the game, the outlet for deep threes vanished and we could switch / not shade as much. You saw our guys defend more on an island without help, sinking or shading nearly the same way.
I mean, this is a bit semantic. We were shading, but then we did settle into the switch. We weren't going into drop and still meeting shooters at the level.
You're saying that the switch was more of a concession than the initial response, but it is still a tactical difference from what we did defensively all season and we did it out the gate.
The first three he hit in the game was because Brunson/KAT failed to switch, there were also several plays early on where it looked like neither Mitch or KAT knew whether to switch or not and other times they got caught in a half drop before flying out to him, they left KP to help sometimes, even though KP was 26 feet from the hoop. The first committed man on an island with no help, shade, or dig down was Precious in that clip.
I don't think it's semantic at all, the defense can be much more aggressive if KP is out of the game due to HIV/AIDs.

Keep expanding and playing free
Deuce should stay focused on building momentum one game to the next
Deuce breaking out of his slump was huge.
Playing free is a good way to put it, I felt like Deuce and others got into a flow, because the pressure is off now

I was wrong about Thibs. Such an elite coach!

We gonna take our anger out on em in the ECF don't worryyyyyyy
The opportunity is there but the Knicks will have to bring the same energy every single night

This sounds more like execution than strategy.
Precious didn't play until the 5 min mark of the 2nd qtr. We were for sure switching well before then.

And we were getting cooked.
When I say switch, I mean switch and no help is coming, no aggressive shading, no soft doubles, just you and the offensive player alone out there together. That didn't start happening in spades until we were down, and KP was out.

NoDopeOnSundays wrote:This was the second time Tatum missed a shot on a switch in the game, the first time was against KAT but he didn't try to attack he just took a three. This was the first time in the game where he really tried to dance/beat an iso and got stone walled with no help coming.
Prior to this he had hit a three where KAT & Brunson didn't know whether to switch or not, with Brunson trying to get back to Jrue on a roll and they didn't communicate, the second three he hit was on Mitch where he switched but Mikal was shading hard to him so the open three was there for KP, but Tatum didn't see him so he took the three anyway. This GIF was the first time in the game they switched on Tatum with no shading, no sinking, no help coming and Tatum had to just try and beat one of our bigs one on one. Nobody shaded or helped, that is the first real no help switch we had on him.

Precious gives us another good defender inside and out. But if Mitch was really best +- that says something.
It's crazy that the Celtics take 95% 3's and KAT can't even get any shots.

It's really funny that the Celtics were complaining that game 1 was overly physical. That was an early regular season game for us, especially after Detroit![]()
The Knicks want to play a more finesse game, but like Hart said, we can still carry a big stick when needed. We'll find out if Boston has that gear.
The Magic tested them physically, but the Magic don't have the talent to back it up. We have the 1-2 punch If we're playing with focus and purpose.
