what jaylin williams does to that? there are 3 players in the thunder roster that had substantial positive impact this season on thunder defensive rebounding rate (regularized and adjusted): hartenstein (98th percentile), jaylin (97th percentile) and kenrich (89th percentile) (per Jeremias Engelman's Three Factors). the thunder have multiple bottom of the league guys in that aspect: jdub, dort, wiggins, joe. this guys all suck in the rebounding part.

denver needs zone looks to protect jokic liability at rim protection. so they clog lanes and give the outside shot. to punish zone you have to have outside shooters. hartenstein can rebound, but can't shoot threes. chet can shoot threes, but can't rebound. both of them do nice things (like chet's defensive playmaking and hartenstein's floater), but at the end of the day it's still a dicey mismatch where a 300lbs guy can go lower and stablish position against your 215-250lbs 7footer.

with jaylin you shore up defensive rebounding, jokic can't go lower, and he offers another 3 ball to punish zone. denver's best offensive option (bulldoze inside and crash offensive glass) was severely affected by jaylin and that turned the game to us. denver looked extremely bothered by him. i feel by how westbrook and jokic attacked him, they wanted to punk/intimidate/phase him because they knew what was happenning.

jokic vs chet and/or hart is a dicey mismatch that can go both ways, but by a landslide - you lose the rebounding battle by a landslide, win the turnover battle by a landslide, win the rim protection battle by a landslide... the results are always wild. jaylin stabilized the match up. we're likely to still lose the battle inside when jaylin is on, but it's a more controlled leak. i feel like with chet and hartenstein the thunder will allow a 10+ offensive rebounds jokic game by the end of the series. with jaylin i don't feel it + the three ball to punish zone.

in game 1, caruso and cason checked in and turned the game to us. then mark dropped cason for dort and we melted (dort was the worst +- game 1). i still don't understand, maybe some hierarchy **** going on. now, jaylin was the first sub in, it clicked and it turned the game to us. i honestly hope mark will roll this back unlike he did with the cason/caruso super sub.

Using their entire career isn't an adequate sample size for comparison? I guess we just never have the data to compare players. You might as well claim we can't believe SGA is better than Cole Anthony due to lack of sample size. Using their entire careers for comparison is clearly lacking in sample size.

you didn't use their entire carreer. wiggins is a 39% carreer shooter on 725 attempts and 41% on 587 if you count the last three seasons. you used the sample of 33 shots and decided wiggins can't make a three in playoffs. joe is a better outside shooter than wiggins, and a better defender too. fact. but wiggins is 23rd in 3-year xRAPM there's something about his off ball dynamism that makes this offense tick.

btw jaylin williams earned an extension in this game.

Wait...I thought I was supposed to be the one who didn't understand sample size. What in the name of recency bias is this?

defensive minded 23 year old center, 3rd season, improved upon every nba season, interesting rebounding, passing and shooting potential. charge drawing ace with thunder defense background. voted by his teammates as the best teammate. going into the last year of his contract. tape matching up against jokic on joker's worst playoff game i can remember.

how much do you think this player command in the trade market and open free agency market?

Wiggins is tougher than Joe.

Joe sometimes looks scared, IMHO Wiggins needs to play more than Joe. He is capable to have crazy stints where he scores 10-12 points in couple of minutes.

yeah I love Joe fit in this thunder squad but he really looks scared in those POs games :(

also Wiggins can create his own shot which is something we lack a lot.

I will probably look stupid saying this but I feel this is a key game..we are the better team so getting HCA back is HUGE...on the other hand they have the experience so being down 1-2 with one more them on the road is really tough. I just love the odds of us advancing if we win this game.

Daig didn’t get coach of the year this year cause he didn’t unlock Dieng possibilities .

He didn’t unlock Poku possibilities either …

Chet/JDub best quarter in a playoff game but OKC is forcing too many shots and Shai looks very nervous (hope I'm wrong about Shai)

OKC was killing it with JDub/Chet and Jokic got his second foul...don't like the timing of giving them some rest and play Caruso/joe/Cason.

Shai choking like Harden wtf is wrong with him...would be +15 if he wasn't that bad.

This is by far the best playoff game from Chet and JDub is doing well...supporting cast struggling a lot offensively.

Can't play Isaiah Joe anymore, we need 5 good defenders on the floor.

Why? He didn't hire himself...or Billy D or Scott Brooks...or refuse to consolidate the roster to improve it at the top for the playoffs...

why so?

only missmatch was Joe and he didn't play anymore.

Mistake was OKC giving the ball to Shai in the last minute but I have no clue if that was coming from the coaching staff

This is 100% on Shai. He used to lead us in any playoff game but that was the worst game I have watched him play in 2-3 seasons.
