Thibs just trying something different? Not sure why go away from what worked in the first 2 games. Not switching and playing drop is a recipe for disaster against Boston. You gotta play physical with them, none of them are built for it. Fight over the screens or switch and get up in their shooting zone. Knicks just looked too comfortable today and didn't have that killer instinct.

Our desired result in defense is seeing a Celtic player try to shoot a jumper over anyone of these two’s outstretched arms so one of them will be able to patrol and get the defensive rebound. If they get beat, Mikal and OG are good enough help defenders that can also protect the rim. JB will be the only person in the team that needs help in defense in this regard.

They’re gonna keep intentionally fouling Mitch to take him out the game, as much as I want to start Mitch since we need his defense. We’re gonna need huk to step up next year.

I doubt he changed anything. Guys just didn’t fight as hard and Boston did a better job of targeting guys.

It’s such a technical thing, it seems, that I don’t get how they don’t just lock themselves in a room / gym until they have it down pat

I mean if they keep fouling Mitch I don’t have an issue bc that would be early bonus for the team for most of the quarter lol.

It’s physically taxing to screen all game. I guess he wants to save his energy.

Also bc why bring Kat’s man which was Tatum..into the action? I’ll admit that Towns can’t set hard screens but Celtics would just switch and live with the results.

Just let KAT slip or pop instead for a three pointer.

The problem is JB seeing a pick being a function of him being able to score rather than his all-star big being able to get into a rhythm and rack up his points.

Celtics got too comfortable once Knicks showed soft coverage.

This team can slack a little on defense like they did today if they had a lethal offense to counter. You got four 20 pt scorers in the starting 5 but you would never know it. This is the reason why I'm constantly on the fence about Thibs because a real good coach could unleash this offense and it would look eerily similar to Bostons. Imagine OG/Mikal/KAT/JB all consistently taking 5-6 threes a game. The offense is just so stagnant that it never creates opportunities for everyone to shoot.

Yeah that makes sense I guess

And why scorers don’t do a lot

Plus he’s already foul prone

Such a mess lol

Prevent defense may not work in the NFL but you should play games this way when you’re up 2-0. You don’t have to win but you scratch and claw to keep it close

You cannot lose the way we did — that is like losing the series

Obviously the counterpoint is that it could not be helped — Boston blew the doors off and Thibs couldn’t do a thing to prevent it

And everyone had to understand they werent going to shoot 25% in 3's the whole series. If they made 30% the first 2 games we would be down 3-0. Thats not very comforting.
There's something about an underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.

Brunson, Hart, and Mikal all citing a lack of urgency (mentioned in separate interviews). So I’m sure guys spoke about this in the locker room. They’re all using the same verbiage.

The only positive to take from this is for them to have this horrendous effort and still be up 2-1
