Spurs, Rockets Teams To Watch If Celtics Trade Veterans

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed May 14, 2025 12:38 pm

If the Boston Celtics choose to move veteran players this summer, two teams to keep an eye on as trade partners are the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets. Both the Spurs and Rockets could be looking to add win-now pieces, while the Celtics could be looking to lessen their tax burden in the wake of Jayson Tatum's torn Achilles.

It's been speculated that Boston could look to move on from Kristaps Porzingis, Jrue Holiday, Sam Hauser, or perhaps even Jaylen Brown this offseason. The Celtics are currently face a combined salary and luxury tax bill of over $500 million for next season. Given that Tatum is likely to miss most, if not all, of next season, that's a figure that Brad Stevens and the new ownership group will likely look to lessen.

Houston head coach Ime Udoka has familiarity with some of the Celtics players from his time as their head coach. San Antonio is rumored to be open to moving the second overall pick, if they can add a major player to push things forward around Victor Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox.

As a Rockets fan, none of those four players is that exciting, unless they come at an extreme bargain. I don't really see it.

Unless Houston made a star trade first. Then Hauser or someone might look completely different as a potential asset.
All human life on the earth is like grass, and all human glory is like a flower in a field. The grass dries up and its flower falls off, but the Lord’s word endures forever.
