I'm in the camp of never dealing with the Lakers, Celtics, Warriors, etc chronic overspenders unless it's in a bend them over backwards scenario

I don't see how Kuminga fits with Melo/Miller/Miles. There is only one basketball.

Yeah, but I also think adding more scoring power is needed because we haven't been able to count on these guys staying healthy. Having another scoring that can size up into a larger role makes sense which is why I am a fan of taking Tre or Ace because they are good enough shooters to play off the ball but also good enough to play a larger role with more isolations and plays called for them off screens if one of the main scorers is out.
I don't think we are in a position to build out the roster as if everyone is healthy, especially because even when healthy we aren't really a guaranteed playoff team.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #7
One trade that I think could make sense for us and Wizards is.
Hornets trade Nurkic and future 2nd rounder for Marcus Smart.
Wizards need another big to pair with Sarr after trading away JVal at deadline and Hornets are looking for a defensive minded guard. Both on expirings so we can toss them a small incentive of a future 2nd to get the deal done if we are motivated.

lol, too easy.
In all seriousness, Smart for Nurk would certainly work but I've long wondered what the price would be on Kispert. We can certainly use wing shooting and I like him at $14m/yr.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #7
would you do it? no sure why you would include the 2025 59th pick. thats almost negative value when we'd have 4, 10, 33, 34 already.
"In the proposed trade from the Rockets on SI site, Ball and Grant Williams land in Houston. Williams would fit quite nicely there. In exchange, Charlotte lands Fred VanVleet, Jabari Smith, a 2025 first-round pick (10th overall), a 2025 second-rounder (59th), Phoenix's 2027 first-round pick, and an unprotected 2028 first-round pick from Houston."

Interesting article by Eddie Bitar via Yahoo Sports. In his mind, he presents 8 possible trade targets for the Hornets using their #4 pick, their own 2031 first round pick, and several non-core players. I think his trade packages from us are weak for some of these. But I would pull the trigger on either of the Zion, Markkanen, Jackson Jr. options. Not so sure on Turner, and no to the rest (I think…).

Re: Fake Trade Thread #7
trading that package for norm powell (who has 1 yr on his deal) would be insane. same for simmons. jjj also only 1 year, but might be worth the gamble. i dont think the turner trade is feasible based on timing.

Since it's been broached, would anyone move Melo for #2 in a deal?

If they've had enough of the injuries and stagnation then I would argue a quick retool towards something like Harper/VJ/Miller would be an interesting way to go about it.
I don't see either team entertaining it but I'm not necessarily totally opposed to it. Hornets are going to be trash for at least the next couple years anyway

The second half of those trades are horrible. Like why would we give up #4 to S&T for Turner when we can do that for 1/4th of the value if he's signing a big contract Indy can't afford? What do we do with Mark after that?
I would definitely consider Zion and Sabonis for the 4th pick. I would easily take JJJ for the 4th pick. I'm not using the 4th pick in any of those other scenarios though.

I’d want a little more from the Spurs than just the second pick. Harper is a talent but still totally unproven. Who would they send back in salary to match?
Interesting idea but they would have better trade options available for that pick than Melo.

I don't love it but I don't think I'd riot if we decided to just reset the elite PG prospect clock back. But I don't see any way the Spurs would trade #2 for LaMelo at this point. Maybe if it was two years ago and LaMelo had only lost one season to ankle problems instead of three.
It would be a lot more frustrating if we traded #4 and Melo for #2 (and got some stuff back), which is probably more along the lines of his actual trade value right now.

Probably fair value, when you consider #2 is worth #5 and at least a future first in any trade.
or
Which holds more value? Spurs at #2 or imaginary team offering picks 9,10 and 12? I think you could make the case that #2 might still be more valuable. If we traded LaMelo for 3 future picks and they turned out to be 9, 10 and 12 then you are probably happy with the return.
However, makes no sense for the Spurs to trade a pick for a point guard to avoid drafting a point guard.

only if we had some bad Ball news, either injury or wanting to leave. then i would probably still shop a little, its not that exciting a package.

I'm not sure I'd love it either but Spurs would at least get someone who can space the floor in their backcourt, which they don't have now.
