I'm curious, too. An MLE needs to either be a 5th starter or a 6th man, so that is either a 2nd or 3rd guard. I doubt he beats out KCP and I'm not sure he'll beat out AB, so I think it would actually be a 4th guard, but that would mean around 16-18 MPG, which would be quite the overpay.
I wouldn't get my hopes up about the Magic using the MLE. Teams that use the MLE are then hard capped at the 1st apron ($195M). If we renounce all our FA's were at around $175M. If we sign NAW for around $14M we're at around $189M, then add our 2 1st RD picks ~$6M we're at $195M and we have no room to re-sign Mo and/or another player.

i'd bet my whole house we don't use both 1st round draft picks..
I'm sure it's possible, but you've renounced 4 players and I believe you have to have at least 13 under contract, so you've got $175M (11 players) + $14M for NAW and your at $189M, and you have to sign at least 1-3 players with $6M to work with. Where's the $$$ for Mo?

Hes not and never will be. I dont see where NAW makes sense for this team unless KCP is traded. I do not see that happening so I do not see a role for NAW on this team.

It’s not a matter of him being significantly better, although I think they’d be about the same as same.

It’s about one guy costing 33% less than the other over the next two years.

I wouldn’t necessarily sign NAW without sending KCP’s money out either.

Sexton and Murphy and Royce O’Neale…

And the only guys outgoing are Goga and Cole and KCP and Jett?

How many first round picks are they sacrificing in this scenario, like five?

According to EPM, Alexander-Walker’s performance in 23-24 was better than any year of KCP’s NBA career.

NAW this past year was in line with every year of KCP’s career.

It’s like people don’t even look at stats and such. NAW would be a solid KCP replacement at a much cheaper scale. He’s really found his niche and knows that role to play

I’d say he’s a great comp with KCP but half the salary, half the mileage…idk that NAW makes ORL better, just more financially flexible. Ideally, KCP goes out for a more offensive- minded starter. NAW takes the same role that KCP belongs in- solid backup multi-positional 3&D.

We might be able to get someone named Murphy for that…but not Trey

There will be very few if any teams willing to add KCP's contract. Will be very hard to trade him. Not that he is bad, but every team is working with Salary constraints that could use a defensive specialist. I just don't see any team taking on KCP without giving up equally bad contracts in return.

What are the 11 players under contract for you? That’s a good starting point? I think we’ve got 2 different paths going on here

We are so eager to chase the likes of CJ McCollum, Jordan Poole or Trae Young. My question is if that is the case, we have to give up Jalen Suggs otherwise this roster is not sustainable. 4 over 30M contract players on the roster is not going to lead you to Win. We will be above second apron.

Yeah, I wanted to go big. But is the likes of potential 4 FRPs plus Franz and AB will get you Giannis? That makes me second guess if that is feasible.

Yes, we need to upgrade our guard spot to add offense. But let's just wait and see if the right opportunities arrive. San Antonio is shopping NO.2 pick. Could we get involved and add a sure fire young star in Dylan Harper? Remember, players when they are at the draft have the lowest asking price when compared to their later careers. Just some creative stuff here.

The Magic won’t be in the 2nd apron next season regardless.

They will likely be a heavy tax team in 26-27, but by the summer of 2027 KCP and Goga will be off the books and they can easily escape Isaac if they’re inclined.

I’m not really concerned about the long-term financial situation. They’re going to have one painful year and if it extends beyond that it’s because they have a team capable of winning big.

One thing is for certain - you don’t need to worry about the financial situation of this team with Weltman at the helm…making sure the DeVos fleet of yachts is constantly fueled at the expense of the roster has always been his utmost concern.
