Run this deal back, let the bad contracts leave us, maintain the flexibility. Miami is not that far away, and a I firmly believe not a bad basketball team as currently constructed. I don’t think people realize how wild it is to have the center point of your entire attack quit on the team halfway through the year.
I think one of the things that really got to Spo this year was that he tried to revamp the offense and move us to a 5 out attack. Jimmy bucked it, sulked about it, and then torpedoed the move. I don’t know if you guys remember the way we looked in pre season but it was fresh it was fun, the spacing was amazing. Spo designed that offense for that team but if you recall Jimmy was upset being moved off the primary actions in favor for Herro, Spo went back to the old stuff to try to pacify Jimmy to “take him out of the corner”.
What we were left with when the dust settled was a confused offensive attack in the middle of a scheme transition without one of its biggest pieces. I think if you let Spo get back to the drawing board things will improve on that end. The adjustments are obvious, better spacing, higher tempo it can be done with everybody on board. I do think that involves playing Bam a lot more at the 5 and using the 2 big lineup more situationally.
Herro needs to develop the ability to turn tight defensive coverage into an advantage by distributing and by foul baiting. Miami needs to figure out how to ultimately turn the current cap allotment of Wiggins, Duncan, and Terry into a player who can contribute to the scoring at a clip that can reduce coverage on Herro. I think with our core of players and the way the team is built, they can afford to be patient, and I wouldn’t rule out something opening up around the deadline. Let people continue to overpay we are moving towards a power position, we just need to stop trying to apply bandaids and let things run their course. That doesn’t mean we have to tank or can’t be competitive.
