My goodness, just a whisper of being a Hornet brings the curse:
Darius Garland has surgery on toe, expected to be out 4 to 5 months.
Next?

Next?
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Rumor is the Celtics want a first round pick and less salary back for Jrue.

Also I don't understand the Jrue hype when most are suggesting we draft VJ.
Are we bringing VJ off the bench in this scenario?

I'm not as sold on VJ and I also don't think Jrue is worth the money, but even if I was sold on both I still wouldn't care and would be happy to solve that problem organically over the course of the next couple seasons.
We need depth. We are not close to competing. We should not be making decisions about who to draft in light of who we might acquire in FA or by trade.

Good luck with that, Boston. You'd need to pay us a frp to take Jrue's massive contract. Bro is 37.

Yes, for 3 whole years no questions asked.

Yeah the issue is Boston is 20 million over the 2nd apron.
32 million over the 1st apron.
40 million over the Lux Tax.
Jrue makes 32.4 million
KP makes 30.7 million.
So they need to be able to send out 30 million in any trade and only take back like 10 million in order to dodge the 2nd apron. It makes no sense for Boston to just give away Jrue if you aren't at least dodging the 2nd apron. That means team needs to have roughly 20 million in cap space for that to work as 2 team deal, which is like Brooklyn, Detroit and Chicago but that would mean releasing cap holds for Giddey/Beasley/Schroder etc... so it is really just Brooklyn.
We have basically 5 million in cap space, so we can hardly save Boston any money in this type of deal.

Could we take Hauser into the MLE and just submit it as a separate deal?

Yeah, they could trade Hauser away to us or someone else into MLE but that would still only save them like 15-16 million (assuming it is just 2 team deal with us and Boston), they would still be above the 2nd apron and just down two players. What good would that do for Boston?

Agreed. I don't think they will get a team to both eat Jrue's salary AND give up a first to do so.

Just to be clear, he's turning 35 this week. The talk about him being that age is about the fact that he'll have a player option for $40M when he's 37.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #7
Anybody interested in forking over a 1st round pick for Ben Mathurin? He's underutilized by IND but is still only 22. Still has 2 years under his rookie deal so not sure why IND would be motivated to move him, but just curious if anyone would be interested.

Kind of amazing the Bulls still hold the Blazers lottery-protected 1st from the Lauri trade when Markkanen was entering restricted free agency and Bulls held him hostage, threatening to match even if it meant going over the tax.
We were interested.
Then bowed out and signed Oubre.
What a crash.

Yeah I should've been more clear. Either way, for that size contract there is enormous risk given how much is tied up for multiple seasons and giving up a frp for someone who is at the end of their career and may not even be productive by say the 26-27 season would be very dumb.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #7
In his 16 year career, Jrue has averaged 65 games. That's probably higher than any Hornet.
He is listed at 6' 4", 205. He's a running back who handles the ball with body, strength, poise, IQ.
He is going to remain good, although he's hit a wall.
I suspect him to move laterally the next 2 of 3 years on his deal. That last year might be negative value, but he will be an expiring deal and with his 2 rings would be a target for playoff teams looking to bring him off their bench. He would still bully bench units.

Bam would be my dream target. I doubt Miami would deal with us again especially after the Rozier trade lol
