He would probably end up starting over Davion but I love the fit here especially if we end up drafting a PG. Could serve as a one year vet stop gap and give him every opportunity to recoup his value. Not many teams are going to offer him up a chance at starting.

I really don't see the Hawks dealing him here without an extreme overpay involved. I think they just end up ending him for a boat load of money. He's going to cost 57 per on the extension.

$57M a year for Trae Young??? Total poison. And I say that less about Young as a player and more about constructing a team in the era of this CBA/2nd apron world. I mean, you'd need the salary cap to be ~$230M just to have him or someone on his salary be 25% of the cap.

I pray we don't make the Duncan Robinson mistake with Davion Mitchell and overpay for a role player that should be coming off the bench.
If I were in the front office, my top priority would be going after a bonafide #1 option by leveraging the contracts of Wiggins, Rozier, and Anderson. I would also throw in Bam or Herro. We're nowhere close to contending for a title so we might as well start a soft rebuild.
My building blocks would be Ware, Bam/Herro, Pelle, Mitchell, this year's FRP, and whatever star I could acquire via trade

I dont believe Mia would pay big for Trae and Herro and I dont see Atl wanting to trade for Herro and pay him if they are unwilling to pay Trae.

The implication here is that if we retain Mitchell its an overpay. I think its a lazy comparison, and I'm someone who agrees that Duncan was a mistake. Mitchell brings immense value as an elite POA defender at the PG position, those guys you can find but they do not grow on trees. As long as the AAV is reasonable and his 3P shooting can be in the 37-40% range you get your money's worth because a defender doesn't go on cold streaks. Duncan is a shooter that cant create his own shot and doesn't defend, you can find one of those guys and put him through the player development program every year.

In the event they do trade for Trae they should be trying to get another star like a KD or someone on the wing and have a starting lineup of Trae/???/KD/Bam/Ware who all blend together well. They’ll likely never move Herro though so it’s all pie in the sky talk honestly

His QO is what 9 million.. if he gets a massive offer sheet then it is what it is, we likely wont match it.
I dont think teams will offer something like that for him based off a third of a season success. Before he arrived to the Heat, he was barely getting playing time, 24 minutes a game on the raptors and was on his way to a minimal pay. Before the raptors he was getting 18 minutes a game in sacramento.
He was getting heavy minutes here, he then got moved to starter, and then got moved to the bench again.
He is still very much a project with room to develop, but i dont think teams are going to back up the brinks truck at his house for him.
I think we will be able to get him around his QO.

I agree. The well is dry out there. I wouldn't be shocked if we have already come to terms on a contract with him and it can't be announced yet. I also assume it will be around the 9-11 mil range which is near his QO.

Durant reportedly wants only a “win-now” situation and Miami, Philadelphia, and even OKC are said to be among the potential suitors.

I dont see the fit here in Miami.. and Ainge is going to try to sell high while he can and get multi firsts for him.. we should be doing the same with Herro.

I see Lauri ending up on the Suns in a three way trade and we get Durant.

Suns should gamble on Embiid and offer Durant for him.
Philly could then draft Khaman Maluach to play center

Re: 2025 Offseason Season Thread Vol. 1
I’m sitting here still wondering why Kevin Durant would want to be traded to a team that has no interest in giving him an extension. Playing your age 37 year with a two year 120 extension looming and passing that up is not something i would advise him doing because of the love of the game lol. Butler should have set the precedent for aging star getting his extension. All i’ve seen reported is GM’s view him as a one year rental. Do the Spurs have interest in extending him? I know we certainly can.

9 mil/yr wouldn't be bad, especially if we can get a good PG in the draft. Do you think Mitchell and Walter Clayton Jr would be a good 1-2 punch for us at the PG spot?

Yes i think Mitchell and WCJ would be a suitable PG duo. Both are built like running backs. WCJ is more of a scorer while Mitchell is the defensive counter.

“When the season ended, I took some time away just to decompress, gather my thoughts, really get to a place of peace,” Jaquez, 24, said. “Now I’m full steam ahead. I’ve been in the gym every single day, working on my mind, body, spirit, my jump shot, defense. Really just getting my body and mind in tune to get ready for this next season.”
