Arenas is basically a more self aware, more accomplished (on the court) version of Perkins. Unfortunately, both TV execs and algorithms, reward outlandish takes that garner attention for their absurdity.

His show, "Gil's Arena" is an unwatchable trainwreck — a low-effort, bottom-of-the-barrel disgrace that scrapes the moldy underside of sports commentary. I stopped short of calling it a "cancer," although that might be an apt description as well.

Gil is a very smart guy with a lot of really valuable insight to offer.

Unfortunately he is also lowkey racist, and chooses to make outlandish statements to get attention. I also don't know why he chose McCants for his podcast, that guy did NOTHING in the league and somehow makes LeBron look humble.

I don’t listen to his show, but everytime I see an article about it, it is because he has a SAS/Skip-esque hot take.

Say what you say about Gil. But his draft combine story is pure comedy gold.
