I just don't like the risk projection of going from 3 controlled years of KAT to only one for an older, more injury prone KD.

As part of the trade, KD would have to indicate a willingness to extend for 1-2 additional years at a discounted rate (given his age and to help NYK build a stronger team under the 2nd apron). The picks and cap relief and fit make it worthwhile despite KAT's younger age and "locked in" contractual status...

Yea I would do it if he comes with two first rounders (doubtful Suns would do it though). KD would be a better fit but he is also old as dirt so a straight up trade would be bad.

It we do trade for KD though we would have to win in the next 1-2 years. Window would be slightly longer with Kat.

Also let me say this about Kat. I have mixed feelings about his performance but a new coach could very well unlock his potential more. Thibs did not use Kat well.

If Kat can be utilized better with a new coach, trading for KD straight up would be a grave mistake. KD is very old and could be cooked very soon.

That WOULD make it a bit more palatble but he is still 7 years older and past his prime. He is mainly a jump shooter right now.

I could be wrong but I think the Knicks are more committed to KAT than Bridges based on numerous things and would prefer to trade Bridges unless we are talking a younger Giannis or maybe JJJ (longshot DBook who is also CAA but likely to resign with PHX).

Im leaning this way too. Though a healthy uncooked KD is still a stud no doubt. But I think its a much riskier play. For Bridges Hart Mitch Im all for it...but not KAT

Moving Towns to PF fixes a part of the Kat Brunson defensive woes, having a new coach that rest Brunson and don't force him to bring the ball up being pressured every single time also fixes his defensive woes by having energy to actually defend. Putting Bridges on the bench and Mcbride in the starting five solves the ball handling plus gives Bridges a considerable amount of minutes being the go to guy, instead of just standing in the corner watching Brunson ISO.

hey i'm not against Towns being traded, i actually think he was brought just for that, i would be ok trading him for Durant, give it a go, then let Durant expire and u have cap space to sign Giannis outright, but like i said my problem is having to give way to much to beat other teams.

Staggering their minutes better was one of the many fatal flaws of Thibs robotic thinking . And it WILL make a pretty appreciatiable difference.

Champions don’t need to stagger there 2 best players.

The Knicks are not in the mix for Kevin Durant, the Post has learned.

*No issue with this provided we get one of the less injury prone, younger and more controllable options.

Yeah I also don't understand exactly where that JJJ talk is coming from really. However one thing about JJJ....his 3-4 playoff series that he has played have all been horrendously bad...like Randle vs. Atlanta bad and that in multiple series..I think he had like 3-4 solid games out of a total of like 20+ playoff games.....he may not be a great playoff performer although the sample size is still too small to judge that.

I personally am not sure whether JJJ is really better than OG..let alone KAT + OG. If I had to pick one of the two I may just stick with OG. Keep in mind JJJ is also a pretty poor rebounder for an athletic 6'10 guy.

But I would tend to agree that needing to stagger your best two players is not really a good start if your goal is a title.

I personally tend to like more teams that are sound defensively throughout and it is difficult to see how we can achieve that with KAT and Brunson on the court. That being said, maybe a coach that can develop better chemistry between them on offense could offset some of that.

I know times were different but the Mavs won a title with Dirk and Terry at the 2 and 4. Both pretty bad defensively if I remember correctly. They were surrounded by Kidd-Marion-Chandler....not exactly the Knicks but kind of comparable a bit. Denver won a title with Jokic and Murray being non defenders and btw they played OKC the toughest so far....Indy made the finals despite not being great defensively...maybe if a coach can maximize this offense as well as establish a deep rotation...maybe just maybe it is going to be enough.

I know Cleveland lost and amy blow their team up, but I still believe if healthy they could have made it to the finals despite having some defensive holes as well...

He had a borderline all-star regular season and a pretty solid first two rounds of the playoffs... I gather we could get 1 solid youngster and a pick... or two solid role players for him. But he still has value to these Knicks... he's a good all around bench player... he's best friends with Brunson our best player... and he seems like a solid locker room guy. I don't mind keeping him if he's 25 minutes off the bench of havoc energy.

Yeah he is on a solid contract, super energy and many winning plays and intangibles, still in his prime and good character and loves it here. I really don't think trading him would be beneficial. Utilized in the right line-ups and off the bench he will be a great asset.

I think due to his shooting deficiencies teams would be more reluctant to give up something good...we are better just keeping him around IMO. We already lost a lot of grit with DD and partly Randle gone...I really would not want to lose more grit with Hart traded.

Mikal getting moved for JJJ

KAT
JJJ/Hart
OG/Hart
Someone
Brunson

Leon extracts coaching input from loose mouthed traitor Mikal, drops the hammer on Thibs, then ships Mikal off for another CAA client.

Leon moving more like Michael Corleone in Godfather II than the Don in Godfather I.

The proper stagger would lead both to have 16-20 minutes on floor together instead of closer to 30 minutes.
