Another counter-point to the don't trade #4 for proven defensive player of the year all star making $50m/yr is this. You want to change the culture but right now the culture is being led by a bunch of 20 year olds and Miles Bridges, none of which have any experience winning more than like 43 games in a season or sniffing the playoffs. So adding another 20 year old to that mix is likely not going to turn it around anytime soon. Making trades to blend in guys who fit that mold even if you have to give up assets or young players is often how good teams are built.

I was 100% behind building through the draft after we moved on from Kemba. That has essentially failed. So we can keep grinding or try something different.

Obviously you try to keep #4 because it's a PREMIUM asset not just a surprise box like a future pick position TBD. But man, I'm tired of losing and if there's a path to becoming a playoff team by trading #4 or a bunch of our future firsts then I am ready.

if vj goes 3rd, this is still one of my fave trade ideas. drop back to 7 and hope that one of kon, tre, ace is there or pivot and take maluach, jaku, queen, fears etc... herb would be such a massive upgrade over green.

I don't really understand why they Pelicans would trade up to 4, surrendering Herb Jones, unless they want a franchise PG.

Probably to take a swing at ace.

I don't see why the Pelicans when missing a franchise PG would pay a premium for a finisher.

I like Ace though and see the Sixers taking calls at 3 for him. Who knows? Peterson could come calling. Nothing wrong without a Brandon Miller clone. Besides, Hornets have an easier path to 3 than the Pelicans. Lead piece is pick 4 vs. pick 7.

Id prefer to keep the 2nd in this deal, but its a cool idea. Id be looking on Jakucionis, Fears, and Demin at #7.

If this was what they ended up doing, I might be okay taking Malauch #7 and just leaning into trying to fix the defense in one draft.
Melo-Herb-Miller-Miles-Malauch would be a decent mix of size, shooting, scoring and defense.

Again, would only do this if I had a good deal lined up for Mark and the guy I loved was sniped at #3.
Still a lot of scenarios I like more, but at least with this it would seem to have some type of vision.

Ending up with Herb and Kon out of this draft would turn things around in a big way for me.

Agreed. 2 top level shooters who have good attitudes would help a ton.

Jones coming off rotator cuff surgery…that’s something of a gamble. I’d rather take Ace and see what he can become.

I remain convinced that the only two trade paths to real change available to CLT are based on Melo decisions. Keep Melo or trade Melo.

KEEP: Find a way to trade up for #2, give up 4, future Dallas 1st, more juice if needed, and draft Harper. I’m convinced these guys can not only coexist…they could create a deadly backcourt. For once the Hornets move up to get a projected star. ALTERNATIVE TRADE: send Miles, Green, #4 and #34, plus future Dallas pick to Utah for #5 and Lauri. Keeps Melo, Miller and Mark, adds another 7’ to the front line with range and rebounding, then add whomever is left of the Ace, VJ, Tre or Kon contingent with #5.

TRADE: Trading Melo would necessitate acquiring quality players and picks, then using picks to deal up for #2 and Harper. Someone suggested a trade with Houston for starter level players and #10. Dealing 4 & 10 ought to get it, might have to add the future (crappy) Dallas pick.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

The cost to move from #7 to #4 is likely 1 first round pick.

I don't think Zion is worth only 1 first, would be a massive overpay for NOP.

Prefer to target Trey Murphy (over Zion) if we are moving 4 to 7. I want serious players if the lead piece has star upside.

Pelicans want a starter, young player and 2 firsts for Tre.

When I think of veteran starters who can contribute to playoffs and young players with potential, the first two names that come to mind are obviously Miles Bridges and Tidjane Salaun

It's a fair package. But we will see if the Pelicans are motivated to move up to 4 for Fears.

If 4 is the centerpiece and we are moving down to 7, we can still get Jaku, Kon, TreJ, or Ace.

That would change the payout for Tre Murphy III.
