Playoffs - too long???
Simple question. Do you think the NBA drags the playoffs on for too long? Or are you OK with these games taking as long as they Do?
Personally, I think this is going on for WAY too long. Without a dog in the fight, I lost interest in the playoffs a while ago. I just happened to see that there is a game on tonight, and it reminded me that the playoffs were still on-going. It honestly feels like these playoffs should have ended almost a month ago, and yet here we are with at least 2 more games to go, and we are half way through June.
I know I might just be speaking for myself, but does anyone else share this opinion that the NBA is trying to milk these things for so much longer than they should be?

They're great. There is a certain charm about do or die March Madness style format but there's nothing quite like the chess match and swings of a 7 game series. It's the best.

I think overall the length is fine but it's the Finals that take too long. I don't think we need multiple 2 day breaks between games, personally.

The first round should be best of 5 as well.

The play-in tournament began on April 15.
The NBA Finals will last at least until June 19, if not June 22 this season.
So yes, way too long.

Nope. Love it like this. Hated when the first round was best of five and definitely don't want to go back to 2 or 3 rounds of playoffs.

way too long ,
5/5/5/7 would make more sense, but NBA will never consider that.

The 3 days between games in the Finals is way too long, there's no justifiable reason to have the series prolonged to this extent. It absolutely does cause casual fans to lose interest and kills the momentum of the series.

I don't want to say 'much' too long, but I would prefer best of 5 series all the way through.
Pretty meh on the play-in still as well.

I tend to agree, one benefit though ....it makes the summer a tad shorter.

I don't know about too long but they're running into the summer which is when I wander outside and prefer not to return.

Yeah, the two cities aren't even two hours flying distance from each other. If ever there was a series that they could have chopped a day or two off the breaks with, this was the one.

Re: Playoffs - too long???
The two issues I have and this is what my eyes are telling me:
1. 1st round - it seems like the first 2 games of a series are played within a 2-3 day span, and then the rest of the series, you get these long breaks in between so the first round ends up going almost 2.5 weeks if it goes a full 7 and then if its a sweep, the team has almost a week off between games.
2. NBA Finals - Games 1 and 2 should be played every other day, and then you only get the 2 day rest period when they're about to travel out.
Edit: It wouldn't shock me if the NBA pushes the start to the season another week into October. I think it's scheduled for 10/21 for next year, but I remember they use to open the season around Halloween time. I think their goal should be to have something going through mid-July until football season picks up.

Did you mind last year when the Celtics won the title? Did you still feel it was too lengthy?Joshyjess wrote:Simple question. Do you think the NBA drags the playoffs on for too long? Or are you OK with these games taking as long as they Do?

The first round should be best of 5 as well.
It used to be. Some years I agree but in this age of parity, I don't exactly feel a need to shorten the first round. This year the West had 6 teams within 2 games of each other. We got epic series battles from Nuggets vs. Clippers and Rockets vs. Warriors.
Let's shorten the East to 5 games in the first round but leave the West the same.

Re: Playoffs - too long???
I moved on already, i'll check the highlights and replay of the finals later for anything interesting but I stopped caring about it weeks ago. Unfortunately there's no big FIBA tournament or Olympics this summer to watch to supplement, so i'll probably be missing basketball by mid-July.
I say 1st round is best of 3, 2nd round best of 5, and Conference Finals and FInals are best of 7. Speeds things up, makes it more interesting in the "easy" match ups as well, much easier for an 8 seed to capture 2 games rather than 4. Make the Play-In an actual tournament, seed them 7-10, winner of 7-10 game plays 2 seed, winner of 8-9 game plays 1st seed to again make more things on the line and interesting.

Go back to 2-3-2 finals format. It made the NBA unique and it reduced travel. That way we don't need so many breaks in between games in the finals.

This and some of the first round TV-scheduling induced delays are the only gripes I have. Otherwise, all good.
