Value-wise, this is a win for Indiana, but my perspective with pick-related trades is that if there is a prospect that you like as a team, it’s worth overpaying to make it happen.

I'd make Mathurin available and count on Walker and Furphy to earn Benn's minutes but that's just me bemoaning us beating ourselves.

Re: Official [Shams] Pacers trade #23 to New Orleans
Could do something like
#7 & #23 to the Nets for #8, #19 & #36?
Or 7 & 23 for 8, 26 & 27?
Does 7 & 23 get you 6 & 40 from the Wizards?
Does 7 & 23 get you to 5 from the Jazz?
Does 7, 23, & future unprotected get 4, 33 & 34 from the Hornets?
7 for 9 & 39 from Raptors?

I don't expect Walker to be available. He is going to be worth more to us than what a team would offer. It isn't unrealistic to expect Walker to earn some meaningful rotation minutes over the next 2 seasons, the remainder of his rookie-scale contract.

I've thought that the Pacers/Bulls would make good partners.
Bulls need young talent and have the Port pick
Pacers have a ton of guys and are hitting the lux tax
Bulls offer the pick/cap space for Mathurin, Walker or Obi?

Seems like something they want for draft day to move one way or another (x+ 23 for better pick, 23 for later pick + asset)

23 is much more valuable than 26 and 38 as well.

It does not cost that much to move up one spot in the mid-lottery, especially when many believe the players from 3-10 in this draft are all pretty comparable.

Pacers basically traded the 17th pick and 29th pick in 2024, the 23rd pick in 2025 and Bruce Brown for Pascal Siakam

Probably need it as part of their god father package for Holiday.
Jordan Walsh goes top 10 in a 2023 redraft.

?
I can interpret your point literally - which I would disagree with. Just as an example, Knicks traded the pick #19 Kai Jones and wound up with #34, #36 and #25 (I forget all of the mechanics, but something like this)
At the moment Kai is struggling to stay in the league, Grimes is about to get paid and McBride is firmly on his second contract.

This is Jordan Nwora and Kira Lewis (and Mojave King) erasure!
Because they were able to resign him, it’s a good deal for Indy. Could still turned later on as he just started a 4 year 30% max contract, though. All depends on how he ages.

Not speaking to the offer(didn't even look at it), but strong disagree that actual NBA front offices have players 3-10 written on their draft board with a big circle around them with a note, basically all the same.
This is what draft pundits do because they aren't in the business of evaluating draft talent, they are in the business of looking right so they can tout it next year so you consume their content, then the aggregators regurgitate the work of just two or three people putting together boards and we get this trope every single year.
The reason the draft touts use a tier system is so when they have players projected at 6 who end up at 12 and players at 14 who end up at 8, instead of acknowledging how wrong they were, they use this as more evidence they were right, by claiming later, see I told you all these players were on the same tier...
Don't fall for it. Every single front office has these players listed in a clear order and I guarantee not one of them think as highly of their 10th rated guy as their 3rd or even close.

So Chuck has to retire his trope about teams not trading for their own picks back....Here is another team doing it.
I like it for both. What I'm surprised at is a team making any kind of deal while they're playing in the finals. Just seems surreal.
It won't be official until the Pacers are finished in the playoffs.
With that said the scouts, assistant GM, etc are still working. It's not like they will be trading one of their players.

It is official, both teams have announced it.

I think the tier system has a purpose in both football and basketball. It answers the BPA versus need decision. You take a player who plays the position you need as long as he is in the top tier of players on the board at your pick.

Given the draft would be soon , now is a good a time as any to remind everyone that the draft tier is flat 1-15, 16-24 and lastly 25 to 44. Picks after 44 doesn’t matter as draft is only 44 deep.
First group is starter potential , second group is rotational player potential , third group would need the right situation and fit to remain in the league.

The draft is basically a pretty long interview session and there’s sometimes not that clear cut candidate who is above and way better than the rest .
Just a matter of fit. I might value candidate A who offers more experience and has been doing this exact role for 4-5 years but my counterpart might prefer candidate B who is an enthusiastic go getter who’s willing to do more and have a great learning mindset whatever that might means.
Another counterpart could prefer candidate C who just looks the best while the last manager who was roped in as an interviewer just wants a warm body in to get this whole thing done and over with. It’s just some minor role in the department and we already have our star contributor and other contributors as well. Just to fill up headcount availability.

And the Raps turned those picks into:
A 22+ pt Ingram
A 40% 3+D Ochai
A rookie Walter who looks like he will be a starter in the next few years
Raps made out quite ok
