Re: The Ace Bailey Thread
I would for sure say this is 80% coming from his agent/camp giving him some pretty terrible advice.

Re: The Ace Bailey Thread
Ace is already polarizing but I don’t think this is all that new with guys refusing workouts. We have heard guys have refused Charlotte workouts.
Haliburton told Cleveland and Indy not to draft him.
Sarr told Atlanta not to draft him.
Wiseman refused Minny since they had Towns.
LaMelo apparently didn’t want to go to Warriors.
Also we have seen a lot of examples lately of guys going to winning teams and it not working out for them development wise.
Wiseman to Warriors
Jarace to Pacers
Sheppard to Rockets
Dillingham to Wolves
Kuminga to Warriors
So I understand maybe having 1-2 teams if you think it’s a bad situation avoiding but eventually you have to be open to working out for a few teams.

I am just perplexed by what his statement means. Statement is he wants a runway to stardom. Every team picking 3-8 has a need for his archetype and pt available at his position. Does he just want 30% usage as a rookie? I mean WTH?

Not sure what his usage was at Rutgers, but it didn't exactly equate to winning basketball. And before someone says he didn't have any talent around him hes going to go to a team with not much talent in the NBA as well, unless you're the Sixers which he canceled his workout for. Strange behavior.

I don't get whats so dumb about Ace's strategy
getting drafted to the right team is worth a lot more than getting drafted a few spots higher. nobody cares about your first contract, its every contract after that that matters. starting the day after the draft nobody is going to care about how good of an interview you were or how receptive you were to do a workout, you're judged by your production on the floor.
also i think this kind of thing happens every year with many players, its just the media trying to generate some interest in the draft however they can

Im not necessarily saying it is his strategy, but whomever his agent is just seems like an idiot.

if its part of the strategy to present yourself as an idiot and it ends up with Ace getting to the right team then he's earning his money
LaVar Ball has been called an idiot by people online 1000 times a day for the last decade but his families success speaks for itself

Asking for a promise from the sixers without even meeting them let alone working out for them is stupid. Hell even Flagg worked out for the Mavs.

Maybe he doesn't want to go to the Sixers

Re: The Ace Bailey Thread
Bailey could also be killing any trade down market for the Hornets if teams decide they absolutely don’t want him. Speculation he wants to go to Brooklyn? That’s a long way to fall for the supposedly 3rd best prospect. Still think Ace is a knucklehead and the last thing we need is another immature, ME focused manchild on this boat.
But a trade back deal with the Nets is also dangerous for the Hornets, as the prime options are almost all gone. At 8 it’s more likely a target of Maluach, maybe Fears but he’s probably gone, perhaps Jaku.

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Yeah I can't see any world where someone would I guess try to tank their value to go to Utah or Washington. Id maybe consider a trade down to 8 if it involves Cam Johnson coming back but eh, I dunno.

Re: The Ace Bailey Thread
When you look at it through the lens of which route is going to help him get the most money then it makes more sense. Trying to get yourself to the Wizards or the Nets where you get unlimited shots for the next 4 years versus going to play for the Sixers as the third option and averaging 17 points a game.

Ace doesn't have power. If he's available we simply take him. Don't make this a big deal when we control our pick.
I don't care what Ace wants if he's available I'm taking him at #4. He's the best prospect.

Re: The Ace Bailey Thread
imo expecting prospects to aim to please everyone and target the highest possible draft spot is just an outdated old school concept. people still think these teams have power over these kids and they just dont. the teams have to sell themselves to these already NIL and social media wealthy kids. a few million a year in contract one is nothing to them. you aren't dealing with some desperate kid that got 20k under the table to his uncle to play at Rutgers for a year and now needs to get paid ASAP like its 2002
just get used to it cause its gonna get more and more like this going forward

Re: The Ace Bailey Thread
To your point... it's likely not Ace, just narcissistic greedy agents... and it's a shame he's not getting better representation.but if hornets truly believe in him, then take him and figure it out. I'm not sold the Hornets have him in their top 4, but we'll see.
