Re: 2025 Offseason Season Thread Vol. 2
Until the Arisons turn the page on the Pat Riley era, and bring in a forward thinking basketball executive, the organization will be stuck in purgatory.
Thankfully Adam Simon and the scouting department is very good. That’s the only savings grace right now.

Made the playoffs, lost in historical fashion.
Struck out ON ANOTHER star who demanded Miami as one of top choices
At what point does the front office take responsibility and say you know what? We didn’t deliver with this iteration of Miami Heat basketball…..
When do you say let’s garner assets and rebuild or to flip their best players for picks for other star players?
At this point, how do you justify extending Herro? And if you don’t extend him, how do you justify not getting the Bane package?
Is Miami not doing their due diligence? Checking to see what teams would offer for Herro coming off his best season?
Fans need to hit them where it hurts.
Stop going to games
Stop buying jerseys, merchandise….
Demand better.
It’s fair to say this front office has been horrendous since the Iguodala and crowder deal. 29 other teams would have cleaned house in that time. It’s been one mistake followed by another to rectify the first mistake. We’ve been in desperate need of a major clean house and roster blowup for at least 3 years (absolutely after the ‘23 finals crash out vs Denver) would/will not commit to it because it’s not the “heat way”

Cannot have both ways 3ammy. Every summer you want to empty the clip on past-their-prime players, but you then want to also have the assets ready to trade for in-their-prime all star players as well. When we do not have the assets, you lash out at Riley and Co. We are inching closer to restocking our assets, and by holding firm to not overpay for Dame and KD, we may soon have all our draft capital finally restocked.
The one spot I wish Riley did better was having the forethought to trade a player like Jimmy, Martin, Nunn, etc. before they either hit free agency or are in control of their destination because they are on their last year (Jimmy). We need Riley to turn players into trades or assets. Only problem with that approach is then players start to see us as sellers and not loyal. It has the potential to negatively impact player buy-in. The other area is we need to stop overpaying for our homegrown players… which we later need to trade away with second round picks to get out of. In a nutshell, we need to do better with our management of picks, while not bidding against ourselves on our own free agents.
Because they won’t pick a direction, we’re stuck in the middle so we’re forced to hope traffic old stars because we’ll never have the assets to get the young ones. That’s not on me lol. Pick a damn direction.

*A short break in character*
I got into this schtick nonsense thinking Lillard to Miami was going to happen and it would be fun to rile everyone up here for a few weeks while we waited out Hoe Groanin. But this has gotten completely out of hand.
We've missed out on every single damn target except, of course, the guy who's under federal investigation for point shaving.

1) accept it's not our time. Acceptance is the first step in solving any problem.
2) use the next couple of years to build for the future, not for the now. See step 1.
This means :
A) Sell off anything you don't plan to use in the next build. We can take on bad money and/or worse players then the ones we give out - anything and everything that nets us positive useful future assets - be it picks, or young players.
B) Do anything possible to make sure we develop and maximize out young talent. This should override the Wins and losses columns. We need not priorities randoms wins that will lead to no where but the play-in, we need to make sure the young talent gets the most reps and every opportunity to either gain value to be used in future moves, or prove to be worthy of being part of the next build.
C) An added bonus to the approach described in step B - We need to maximize the draft. The next 2 drafts should net us 2 high lottery picks. That type of talent injection coupled with the surrounding steps will result in a young team with young talent, upside, assets, and flexibility to be truly back into relevancy for the 2027-2028 season.
You make the painful necessary steps now so we could shorten the time period we're currently in - stuck on the treadmill going nowhere with no ways to improve. The worst spot to be in.
In the time, we shouldn't sweat the L's - we've had enough winning over the years. Embrace the development of the kids think of the bigger picture and hopefully long term success that awaits us if we strategize and plan long term instead of chasing our own tails and trying to make magic runs with underwhelming talent.
This is the path. I hope you'll follow, and the front office sees the light as well.
This makes too much sense for the Heat to do. When Denver basically took his apart with ease, It became so clear to me that we just didn’t have enough. I started mentioning then that we should trade Jimmy because after what he did to the Bucks, his value would be through the roof. We could have gotten a huge haul. We’ve basically been delaying the inevitable for a couple of years now. Go into a full rebuild. Take your time. Acquire assets. Get rid of anybody that isn’t on a low contract (even Bam and Herro) Set us up to be real contenders. The way the Thunder rebuilt was amazing and they are in the finals right now, but it took time.

They have drafted very well with all of those top picks over last five years.

That definitely needs to happen… with that said, they cannot announce that we are going to send it the next two years. That 1) does not sell tickets, and 2) gets players to disengage or ask for trades out of town. I think Riley and Co. did pick a direction, but it’s the one they cannot announce. Just wish they were a bit more aggressive and willing to move players for assets they do not see as part of the team long term, and would play our kids way more, to help expedite their development.
As much as I wanted us to miss the playoffs this year, by making the playoffs, our future pick situation got a little cleaner, and will be clean soon enough.
I would love to see both Wiggins and Duncan traded for draft capital… while taking back out-of-favor reclamation projects like we got with Davion Mitchell.

Could've just lost in the play in game and have the 1st pick and take Flegg. I would have been setisfied with that.

Sell Wiggins and Duncan to the highest bidder, and with those minutes, play JJJ, Jovic, Larson, KJohnson a bunch of minutes. Rozier is an expiring, which we may want to keep for summer cap flexibility, but if someone calls for his expiring contract offering something juicy, go for it as well!!! Do not see much need for cap space this upcoming summer.

Rozier is basically our FA addition for this offseason too per Andy.

There are no bidders....
The Warriors dumped a lemon on us that we are now stuck with.

Highest bidder… I guarantee someone is willing to trade something for them, even if just second round picks. Collect picks and create minutes for the youngins to play. If we miss the playoffs, great cause we own our pick entirely this year!

Pretty wild how we have managed to strike out on every big name potential addition. Must be our penance for getting the Big 3.
The sliding doors of that Mavericks pick is going to be pretty painful, but there’s still plenty of time to reshape this roster.
I don’t think we’re as bad as we showed this season. The Jimmy dark cloud phucked us, along with forcing minutes to potato’s in Duncan and Terry. Addition by subtraction right there.
Barring unforeseen high level additions, just lean all in on the youth and give big roles to Ware and Jovic alongside Davion, Tyler and Bam. Trade Wiggins, play Jaime. Keep the cap sheet as clean as possible.

To be clear though, the Rockets overpaid. We could never compete with an offer that included Jalen Green, a lottery pick, and that many seconds.

Maybe we could have, but we definitely shouldn’t have, and I am glad we did not.

For those looking for an additional scorer ... Bradley Beal is available cheap. Just saying.
