The Phoenix Suns acquire Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks as part of the Kevin Durant trade package from the Houston Rockets, but acquiring the No. 10 pick in this week's draft was considered most valuable for the Suns. Green and Brooks were starters last season for the Rockets.
"Honestly, the jewel of all this was the No. 10 overall pick in the draft," said Shams Charania on the Pat McAfee Show. "You talk about why now? The trade happened now because the NBA draft is two days away. The Suns have to get moving on getting draft prospects. Getting intel. Getting them into their facility."
ESPN has the Suns selecting Collin Murray-Boyles out of South Carolina in their first mock since Phoenix acquired the pick. Murray-Boyles could give the Suns positional versatility at both power forward and center.
Green signed a three-year, $106 million contract extension with the Rockets in October 2024. Green has positional overlap with Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.
