He’s absolutely a quick scoring deep bench big time though, as that’s really all his game is at this point, albeit as a bit of a black hole.

He's a step up from Tony but I hope we can find someone still better in the draft.

I think they're just opposites, but probably similar level impact? Tony is a rebounder/big body tough defender (but not in space) and almost completely lacking real offensive touch, while James is lacking any real defensive impact and rebounding, but has a real soft offensive touch inside 8 feet? Both low impact 3rd string centers, overall.

If we want someone who can rebound, IMO, we should be looking at the 5/4’s in this draft instead of a pure 5? Someone that can play with Myles in certain matchups, and play the 5 in others? Big bodied, yes; strong, yes; can contribute on both ends, yes.

For reference, someone like Rasheer Fleming. He’s not as long as a true 5, but way long for pure 4; not locked into the post on offense; can play out to the big wings on defense & defend the rim well against all but true 5’s; is more than long enough & strong enough to play against & in a double-big lineup; and is an excellent rebounder, in a way that should translate to the NBA.

He’s like a slightly less vertical Antonio Davis with a jump shot?

Pistons are now quite limited in cap space (realistically, they might operate as an over the cap team if they plan on keeping THJ and Beasley) to keep their MLE now that Cade has hit his 30% escalator by hitting all nba this year.

Agreed. The article did say that to have any real shot at Myles, they would likely have to renounce all their holds, including THJ & Beasley. That they could get to 24.6 M total (spotrac), but would still have to sign 1 more to get league min roster. So, gotta be very unlikely,... at best. :)

Shams reporting that Indy is willing to pay some tax for the next multiple years to keep his team together for a run. I certainly hope so, but I also probably will wait to see it before I believe it?

Championship basketball NBA is expensive, and you cannot be cheap to win. This issue will be resolved by the lawyers.

I heard that the new CBA opens something up after the finals. what is this rule change?

Teams can discuss a new contract with their pending free agents beginning the day after the nba finals, whereas in previous CBA’s, everybody was supposed to wait until July 1. If a player was extension eligible, you were, and are still, able to discuss an extension at any time, but Myles would not be eligible for extension.

With this change, Indy could have a much better idea of if they can come to agreement with Myles and his agent, even before the draft.

So the Pacers can talk to Myles and his agent but other teams can't 'tamper" until later and a contract can't be signed until even later. That said, I expect agents are already talking to every team and doing what they can to inflate interest.

Correct. On all accounts. But we could legally hear reports of Indy and Myles coming to terms at any time after the Finals end. Whereas before, they had to act like they weren’t talking and keep any agreements quiet.

I am only willing to keep Turner if the price is not too steep. I hope Turner can give team a big discount based on his subpar performance in the final.

He shot 53/40/78 splits in the other 3 playoff series combined. And he played really good defense In the Finals, nearly minimizing‘s and Chet’s impact entirely for 6 games. You don’t get to the finals, and even to game 7, without Myles.

I agree. I like Myles. But he was really bad in the finals and there's no other way to put it.

With that being said, I still think he's deserving of a 3yr - 30mil AAV contract.

We’ve all got to remember that with Tyrese out Myles was trying as others were to create more offense and he might have taken shots that if Tyrese would’ve been on the court wouldn’t have been put up. Instead Tyrese would’ve been taking more 3’s and creating easier shots for others.

His shot was really bad in the Finals. His defense was tremendous. And even though he didn’t grab rebounds himself, his boxing out and tap outs led to a solid overall team rebounding run. Just kind of depends on how you want to weight those things In terms of “total value of a player” … :dontknow:

The Myles hate has been crazy. He was going against two beast defenders. Like Scoot said, Holmgren, who is a former #2 pick and supposed super star of the future also didnt have a great finals offensively. I also think part of the issue with Myles in the finals was OKC was able to keep Hartenstein and Chet rested. First two games they didn't start together, but when they did, after the initial few minutes, they took one off, and kept rotating.

I'm not one into excuses but i think this series our luck finally ran out where we really missed a more capable backup to Myles. Bradley wasn't even fit to start the finals and Bryant.... well this just isn't his level of play to put it mildly.

Did we ever find out what illness Myles had that kept him from practice and shoot around for 4-5 days around games 4-6? Man played through feeling terrible and looked like death on the bench for a game or two.

So much has happened since then i completely forgot about that.

Sources informed RG that Pacers center Myles Turner played despite battling a respiratory illness. Turner logged 30 minutes, contributing nine points, two rebounds, one assist, one steal and five blocks. Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle said postgame Turner might be unable to practice Thursday.
