Keep FO (one of the best in the league)
Keep coach (future HOF coach).
Performed better than expected. 1 win shy of an NBA Championship! Started season slow with injuries. Caught fire during the winter.
Improving , rising team. Will be one of the favorites out of the East, especially if/when Hali comes back from injury . Team is deep and experienced. They will be competitive for years to come.

Re: Post Mortem #29 - Indiana Pacers
taking the occasion to say that the Pacers fanbase is the best I have ever played against in a playoff series. They had more reason to complain about the outcome of last night game than anyone else we have played this year and they were very classy after the game.
Feel bad for them because they were supposed to contend next year and the Haliburton injury sucks big time. I do think they will be fine long term though because they have two of the best contracts in the NBA in Nesmith/Nembhard and probably the best coach in the NBA since Pop retired. I have mixed feelings about how much money Turner is worth but can't really let him walk so they might have to get rid of one player to avoid the tax next season (Toppin is a candidate even if it would hurt big time because he improved a lot) and pay the tax once Haliburton comes back.

This might be a top of all time worst end to a season ever for a team with that kind of a run. Like almost a NCAA type of finals heartbreak end. We got robbed of something special and this may have ended up being a one and done by of lightning in a bottle for the Pacers and Haliburton.
Whatever deal with the devil Siakam made for G6, it wasn’t worth it.

Re: Post Mortem #29 - Indiana Pacers
On the bright side for the Pacers, odds are they're actually this good. You don't run through the east and take a 68-win team to 7 by mistake or luck. Nesmith/Nembhard/Siakam/Turner/Haliburton is a really strong starting 5, and of course the quality on their bench. I hope we get to see more from them because this run was a ton of fun to watch.
Nesmith/Nembhard/Haliburton are all 25. Siakam is the only player who might be falling out of his prime @31. They could still make another run whenever it is they get Haliburton back.
They need to retain Myles Turner even if he is a flawed player.
Overall, what a year for the Pacers. I was rooting for them.

they traded their 2025 pick to lessen their tax burden as they will re-sign myles.
they can trade jarace walker, mathurin or toppin into someone's cap/mle to save even more on tax.

Unfortunately, yes. That's three star players in the East suffering a torn Achilles in the same postseason.

Need a better rebounder. Turner has his shot blocking and 3% and Siakam is a good all around player but neither are great rebounders.

I agree, but will add that maybe they should do a minor move like sign another PG now that Haliburton is out. Maybe Tre Jones? Someone who won't cost much but can run the offense.
They still have two PG's on the roster in Nembhard and McConnell. Most NBA teams only carry 3. Not sure how much they like their two-way in RayJ Dennis, but the Pacers have a much bigger need in the frontcourt than another point guard. They have wings/big forwards (Siakam, Toppin, Nesmith, Mathurin, Sheppard, Walker, Furphy) and just free agent Myles Turner and a restricted Isaiah Jackson coming off an achilles tear. They need another 6'11 plus guy to develop. I expect Jackson to come back on a QO, but who knows how good he will be?
Their other two-ways are Quentin Jackson (SG) and Enrique Freeman (PF), but unless James Johnson retires (which is possible), there is no reasonable path to minutes for those guys yet either.
IF they resign Turner to what he's going to want and could get they'll be in the tax. Without Tyrese they'll be lucky to make 8th. Unless they have someone who just explodes. Which is not likely. They will have to cut salary now, does that mean letting Turner go or trading Siakam?
Trading Siakam and Bringing back Turner would be the most likely to return assets or they could work an S&T for Turner and Trade Siakam. Bring back everyone else.

Oh, it's not so cute now.

Won almost every series with the opponent missing a key player, and couldn't win one game, the game of your life, because one guy who shows up from time to time didn't make it....foh.
Congrats to OKC. Played with class, no shenanigans, and SGA showed what a true superstar is. Shined on the brightest stage with the grace of a vet and took a young squad all the way. I'm a fan.

ropjhk wrote:Next season could be a developmental season with Hali out. Their biggest decision will be with Myles Turner. Do they pay up to keep him? Sign and trade? Or do they let him walk and focus next season on development and searching for a new starting C?
I've been kicking this around in my head. The 1 sure thing is they can't be in the tax with the season coming up without Haliburton. So they might try to get a S&T to move Turner depending on what they can get out of him. There are only 2 team with money the Nets and 1 or 2 others if they renounce some contracts Pistons, Griz and Bulls. The Nets could sign him out right but they have Claxton, others need to renounce players to clear cap holds or S&T.
They could find a cheaper center and if the team is not winning they could trade Siakam at the Deadline or trade him going into the season.
But I want to keep all the young guys and play them. And keep TJ McConnell.

Poor New York Chokerbocker fan still can't get over the fact that the Pacers are just a better team. Don't worry maybe next year but I seriously doubt it.
