Fears at 4 in a trade up

And then from there depends on which of Washington, Utah or Brooklyn traded up.

And the Pels.

We could be weighing:

6 + 18 (no interesting players)
7 + 23 (Hetb Jones, Murphy III)
8 + 19 (Claxton, Cam Johnson)

Plenty of variance.

We have to weigh if our guy is still there 6, 7, 8. The further from 4, the more I want players added for value.

7+23 and Herb Jones would be the best outcome of this entire draft.
8+19 and Claxton or Cam would be great as well.

What about 5 + 21 + John Collins (expiring) for our damaged goods? Josh Green (2 years) + Grant Williams (2 years). Those guys are eating up roster spots. I don't want to go in thin again. This should not be a tank year.

Ainge has worked out Fears 2x and the Pelicans, Nets and Wizards all threaten to jump him.

FWIW, I like John Collins and would love having him on this squad. Don’t see them doing that deal but it would be great. Then CLT can deal Miles or see how they both are working out.

Speaking of Fears, here is a very well done video on him called “24 Hours With The #1 PG In The Draft” via YouTube. This is for you MasterIchiro:

I don't mind Collins here either bigger 4 who can play small ball 5.

Miles still worries me and I'd still include him in trades

I don't particularly like him taking swipes at NY pizza. Calls it "mid". It's unfortunate.

I've moved Kon ahead of him.

A significantly worse shooting Kyrie that struggles to finish around the rim does feel about right.

He's only 18 he will get stronger as he grows into his man body. The shooting will come along his FT percentage is a good sign he has touch.

What can't be questioned is his ball handling and ability to get his own shot.

I think his upside is higher than anyone outside of Flagg/Harper. It just sucks we aren't seriously considering him because we have Melo. I think they both could play together.

If there's one thing I know about this draft, it's that no one knows what our FO is thinking.

I still hold hope we defy blind rumors, and grab him 4 the instant we conclude Sixers are holding Ace hostage.

I'm holding out hope he's the surprise pick. I'm on record if it was my pick I would take Fears. I'm just not sold they are seriously considering him.

I would be the happiest person on the board. He's who I really want, but I just don't think they are seriously considering him. We all know how Melo pushed for Miller over Scoot. Could be a similar situation.

My thing is they both can play together. Melo actually needs another playmaker on the court with him. Having Fears who can get his own bucket and also create buckets for others would be huge for this offense. Obviously we would need to trade Bridges for a more defensive minded player because Fears/Melo/Miller isn't going to be a great core for defense. I still like the fit offensively tho.

Ace Bailey is better than Fears, by a lot. You'd take Fears over Ace?

You mean Josh Green does not qualify as a secondary playmaker? Lol!

Trading Bridges for a stopper makes sense. Fears will be 20 when Miles' contract ends. I don't see Miles as a core piece beyond his current contract.

And Melo/Fears would both be secured 4 years and both still in their primes by the end of a longterm evaluation period re: their chemistry. Brandon Miller will also be there.

The knock on Scoot was shooting but he posted the (on lower volume) same numbers from distance as Miller. Fears projects to hit 36% in the NBA - in line with Miller and Scoot this past season.

Have to lean defense when building up the 4 and 5 positions longterm. It can be done.

Fears is worth the investment. It's like suddenly an 85% FT rate is no longer an indicator for a shot translating. How convenient.

I like the trade down and get proven vet and a pick like Fears/Kon/Tre best. We need vets and overall depth. Herb and Fears or Kon and cam would be great outcomes.

Ainge has worked out Fears 2x and he's picking 5. So we won't see Fears in a trade down scenario. We'd have to take him 4 and value him over bids from likely multiple suitors.

Fear and Melo together? Naw…that wouldn’t work. If we draft Fears 4th, better have that Melo trade ready to drop right afterwards.

Someone commenter made a good point…saying Fears is essentially Tre Mann. I don’t think Mann is that good a creator but they do have similar traits. Mann the better shooter.
