What can't be questioned is his ball handling and ability to get his own shot.
I think his upside is higher than anyone outside of Flagg/Harper. It just sucks we aren't seriously considering him because we have Melo. I think they both could play together.
I still hold hope we defy blind rumors, and grab him 4 the instant we conclude Sixers are holding Ace hostage.
Starpower.
I would be the happiest person on the board. He's who I really want, but I just don't think they are seriously considering him. We all know how Melo pushed for Miller over Scoot. Could be a similar situation.
My thing is they both can play together. Melo actually needs another playmaker on the court with him. Having Fears who can get his own bucket and also create buckets for others would be huge for this offense. Obviously we would need to trade Bridges for a more defensive minded player because Fears/Melo/Miller isn't going to be a great core for defense. I still like the fit offensively tho.
You mean Josh Green does not qualify as a secondary playmaker? Lol!
Trading Bridges for a stopper makes sense. Fears will be 20 when Miles' contract ends. I don't see Miles as a core piece beyond his current contract.
And Melo/Fears would both be secured 4 years and both still in their primes by the end of a longterm evaluation period re: their chemistry. Brandon Miller will also be there.
The knock on Scoot was shooting but he posted the (on lower volume) same numbers from distance as Miller. Fears projects to hit 36% in the NBA - in line with Miller and Scoot this past season.
Have to lean defense when building up the 4 and 5 positions longterm. It can be done.
Fears is worth the investment. It's like suddenly an 85% FT rate is no longer an indicator for a shot translating. How convenient.
