Personally, I think this is Utah's mistake all over again--fooled by "improvement" and trying to get too good too fast and it will set back the franchise for many years.

In this case it's compounded by the fact that this year and especially next could have changed the course of the franchise. Instead they'll get a career backup and another non-all star to add to their long list of non-allstars.

actually, it may be a repeat of a giant Olshey mistake. The 'feel-good' winning streak in the middle of this season may be as big a mis-reading of the situation as the 'feel-good' playoff series win over the Clippers in 2016 when CP3 and Blake Griffin were injured. Olshey used that as the springboard to his 350M spending spree in the summer of 2016; and that locked the Blazers into pretender mediocrity for the next 5 seasons

obviously it's not exactly the same, and the calculation this time may be much better, but some skepticism is warranted

Yep, that's another great, more 'at-home' example of the getting too far in front of your own skis...

I'm starting to wonder if the Blazers don't extend Ayton this summer to make his contract align with Grant and Jrue...

DING DING DING.

I think you nailed it.

Now that we have the missing piece in Holiday, we just need to secure Ayton's extension.

Holiday/Scoot
Toumani/Sharpe
Deni/Thybulle
Grant/CMB(More defense/No shooting because duh)
Ayton/Clingan/RW

Pencil us in for the chip in 2026!!

I wonder if the Kings would do DeRozen for Grant straight swap. Maybe Portland throws in some 2nd rounders (cause who cares). Both guys are not happy with their current situations and Kings had interested in Grant before. Blazers go more vet laden starter group and young bench. Kings rotation gets more balanced and get Murray back to his natural SF position...

Monk
LaVine
Murray
Grant
Sabas

Blazers go with...

Jrue/Scoot
DeRozen/Sharpe
Camara/Bryant (fingers crossed)
Deni/Thybulle
Ayton/Clingan

Remember when people laughed at the idea of Derozen 4-5 years ago?

Now, please god give me Derozen so I can get Grant off my time. What a (sad) time to be alive.

I actually thought DeRozen would be a good fit next to Dame... That was way more depressing than this tho imo. That felt truly hamstrung where making any trade felt like pulling teeth towards the end of the Dame era.

Right now, while the Cronin isn't picking the path I want to see them go down with the moves their making or showing he has a very clear direction, they still have plenty of options of what they want to do. Right now it just feels like throwing **** against the wall and seeing what sticks a bit, but they still aren't really hamstrung with bad contracts like they were back after the 2017 season... that was pure absolute hell knowing you weren't going to be able to move like any of those dudes until they were expiring and having 4 years to wait. Now - partly by stint of the new CBA - give it 1 or 2 years and players can be moved on big contracts.

I'm legit a little surprised Kon went as high as 4 in a draft that's supposed to be this deep. He's one of the few top picks that I've never seen it with at the NBA level. Maybe he can be a less athletic Kyle Korver? Good shooter, probably a bad defender, kinda slow... He's got some NBA skills but yeesh...

Seems like at best a Dalton Knetch or maybe best case an Austin Reaves?

Would like see Fears & Maluach off the board before POR picks , seeing Queen or CMB before #10 would be great as well

It'll be CMB. No shooting, best defensive player. His comp is Draymond...

Maybe it will be Bryant.. Toumani twin.. or Zach Collins on the wing.. UGH. Please not Essengue or Bryant. Go for a player that is already able to play.
