We're out of the small guard business for a while. You can only have 1 small guard on your team

I'm sure they were considering Coward, Clayton, and Jase at 16. They're well aware we're inefficient as all hell on offense.

There will be injuries so he'll get playing time. I think year two. You'll see him in more minutes.

Absolutely love this pick! Jase was suppose to be a lottery pick before the whole size thing freaked people out. Yeah w/e 6''0 with 6'6 wingspan and he is playing with Suggs, AB, Bane and Paolo, Franz. We got plenty of help defense. Hes a lot stronger then he looks for his size.

He is exactly type of guard we need. Can shoot from the 3 lights out, score in the paint/strong driver, and playmaker. He had alow TO in Michigan and makes smart decision with the ball most of the time. Also coming from Izzos system, he is going to play defense.

Bane and Jase to start the offseason is FIRE!

I don’t hate the pick. We could have done a lot worse at #25 100% . I just question his role is all.

the ballhandling is good enough. Not sure about the passing since he is a shoot-first guard. He slots in well next to AB IMO.

Here's my question after doing a bit of a deep-dive earlier today, can he go right?

Most guys had him top 10. I didn't think he would come off the board AFTER Clayton. Crazy!
Yeah, I saw him around top 10 a few places......glad we directly addressed shooting instead of our meta.... Length and defense

Until his measurements.... he was locked in on most sites as a lottery pick.... then 2 inches made the biggest difference. lol

It's not like we are talking about a player that short player that can't finish at the rim.... can't play defense....etc.

He was elite in so many things including finishing at the rim and good on the defensive end.

He's too small becomes the answer... but people also want Trae young and Collin sexton?

I know it looks like cherry picking.... but.... Tankathons strength vs weakness

https://www.tankathon.com/players/jase-richardson

:o

Only weakness... rebounding.... AS AN UNDERSIZED FRESHMAN. I'll take it! (Cooper Flagg only player with "No Weaknesses")

oh.... and Ranked #4 on their shooting guard list.

He can handle the ball very well. His passing needs work. But I think he could be an effective playmaker in a few years.

His concerns basically are right hand passing, overall size (but has nice wingspan) and I heard there were potential knee things before his college career or maybe it was even in HS but yeah. He's a baller.

The biggest concerns i have read about Jace are his handle and his size. Analysts have mentioned that he can only dribble with his left hand.

Here's John Hollinger's reaction to the Magic taking him

Richardson's size is a concern for somebody who won’t be able to play point guard full time on offense, but this is about as perfect a roster fit for him as possible. Richardson can play off the ball in Orlando because Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero have the rock, and his ability to knock down shots will be a big help to an Orlando team that struggled mightily from outside a year ago.

I had Richardson 14th on my board. He doesn’t have crazy upside but he might be able to play right away.

I think right now Jase is a shooting guard who cross matches defensively with Black on the 2nd unit. I actually like the fit there, especially if Black takes a step forward with his confidence as a ball handler/playmaker.

And of course it's possible they sign or trade for another guard and Jase just gets his feet wet here and there as a rookie, which IMO is also fine considering he's only going to be 20 years old this season.

I don't think he's ever going to be a pure facilitating point guard, but the shooting and ball handling - especially as his right hand develops - are good enough for him to potentially (this is a best case scenario) become score-first lead guard a la Jalen Brunson.

Speaking of measurements...

Brunson
Height without shoes: 6' 1''
Standing Reach: 8' 0''
Wingspan: 6' 4''

Richardson
Height without shoes: 6' 0 1/2''
Standing Reach: 8' 2 1/2"
Wingspan: 6' 6"

FWIW I think Atlanta has had a crazy good few days with acquiring Porzingis, getting an unprotected 2026, and Asa Newell.

He was my target so I’m happy tonight. He has such a quick release, could be something.

they're going to be really good if they can stay healthy... like fighting for a top 4 seed good.

The Jase pick would *not* stop me from adding another veteran guard by any stretch of the imagination. Free agency or trade.

If Jase is a green goblin for most of his rookie season, that's not the worst thing in the world to me. He's very young.

So Jase was the next available player on the WARP list when we picked..

Anyway, I like that we are being intentional to bring reputable shooters this season.
