I don't expect any coaching candidate to walk away from the job because of a vet min signing or a 2nd round pick but I'm sure there is a lot more than that happening behind the scenes right now. Decisions are being made about the futures of players on the roster. Phone calls are being made. Trades have been happening before the finals ended.

For example I can't imagine the Suns didn't talk to the Knicks about some of their players before trading Durant to Rockets. I didn't want Durant but not trading for Durant is just as big of a decision as trading for Durant. I would just want the new coach's input on all of these decisions.

i think it's more like "you don't **** with us, we're competent on our own, who needs you". which is exactly what we needed to get out of our 20 year rut lol

Starting to wonder if the new coach is gonna know the keypad entry to get in for summer league lmao. We been callin this a”extensive” search. Where I come from that means you talk to more than 3 or 4 dudes over 3 weeks to a month.

The head coach will be named in time to continue the tradition of attending James Dolan's 4th of July party.

Just make one of Thibs old assistants do it before they get fired

I still think Brown or Jenkins matched with Nori or Borrego as their associate head coach is the move.

As much as Thibs didn’t do well last year, I think an underrated part of his failures was due to Bryant leaving and they never really replaced that associate HC on the bench.

Both Woodson and Bryant brought a lot of value to the Knicks in that role and it’s something the Knicks should look to continue.

There should be another coach on the roster empowered to give the head coach both feedback and ideas during games as well as help run team preparation behind the scenes.

Thibs never seemed like he was comfortable with that arrangement but I think he was a better coach with it and them moving away from that contributed to his coaching struggled last season.

What would entice Nori to come as associate head coach? That's his role in Minny so it's a lateral move. Did some reading up on him just today, I think he'd be a good head coach choice.
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

For your first question, Money. I am assuming it would have to be a significant raise since he seems very comfortable in Minny

You’re not wrong he could be a good coach, but that is still a BIG risk…. This team has finals or bust expectations and he’s never been a HC before. A lot of great assistants floundered under the HC spotlight, and considering we’re NYC, and we want to make the finals because the conference is weaker, the spotlight couldn’t be brighter.

Since bryant is not in the running, i would put (some) of my chips in Nori - my top choice

i saw something that i would not like if its Brown. Jenkins doesnt seem to have any glaring weaknesses that i know of, so he is ok

Borrego...trying to change my perspective/opinion about him. Not sure as of now that he can handle NY and its fans but whatevs. Looks like a very good developmental coach

thibs seems to prefer doing things on his own -- which led to all of what happened now, including his firing

perhaps he is worried someone under him would usurp his throne?

From begley…………!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

COACHING SEARCH
James Borrego is the fourth known interview the Knicks have conducted for their head-coaching search. Mike Brown, Taylor Jenkins and Micah Nori have also interviewed for the job. I’d be lying if I said I knew where things stood entering the weekend, but I know Brown has made a good impression during the interview process and garnered support.
The Knicks have also had interest in Billy Donovan and Jason Kidd. Donovan reportedly has agreed with the Bulls on an extension. Mavericks GM Nico Harrison said definitively on Wednesday that Kidd would be coaching in Dallas next season. I still expect the Knicks to end up with a coach with prior head-coaching experience.

1a. Brown 1b. Jenkins

That's where I am right now. I keep going back and forth on Brown and Jenkins. I don't love either of them but it seems like they are the top 2 candidates. But I'm also not feeling Nori or Borrego at all. Maybe they are good coaches and I just don't know enough about them but Nori's joking kind of turns me off tbr and Borrego has coached 5 years and never made the playoffs.

The risk thing is overblown to me. Knicks are not going to fire a coach after 1 year unless the team is completely healthy and ends up outside the top 4 and loses in the 1st round. Even then, how is that a risk? You still get paid. Unless the idea is "you only get once chance to be a 1st time head coach" or whatever - which still is often untrue unless you're absolutely terrible despite having a decent roster.

Spoiler:
Updates on the Knicks Head Coach Search
The New York Knicks’ search for a new head coach is still underway, and some names have emerged as strong candidates. As previously reported, former Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins and former Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown interviewed with New York for the vacancy last week. Sources tell Knicks Fan TV that both will return for another round of interviews this week.
Former Charlotte Hornets head coach and current New Orleans Pelicans assistant coach James Borrego has entered the ring as a new candidate for the job, per ESPN’s Shams Charania. Borrego was a finalist for the Cleveland Cavaliers head coach position last summer before the team chose Kenny Atkinson.
Minnesota Timberwolves assistant coach Micah Nori also interviewed for the position last week. Minnesota’s front office previously denied New York’s request to speak with head coach Chris Finch, but Nori is another intriguing candidate who has a relationship with Karl-Anthony Towns and Knicks’ Senior VP Gersson Rosas.
An even more surprising candidate for Knicks head coach has emerged this week as well.
Sources tell Knicks Fan TV that South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley was interviewed for the job. Staley is one of the NCAA’s best coaches, with three national titles and two WNBA #1 picks (A'ja Wilson and Aliyah Boston) under her tutelage. She previously coached for Temple University, hence her close relationship with Rick (‘95) and Jalen Brunson.

What's with the organization's fear of seriously considering Bryant as the next HC?

Not the risk to the coach, the risk to the team that he would fail. They aren’t trying to take a step back and if they did it would be a total fiasco.
