Kelly was so bad it was like not having a back up center at all when he was on the floor

They also will have to run a 14-man roster instead of 15 to stay under the tax if they stand pat with the rest of the roster in the offseason.

The only way they would have been able to run a 15-man roster was if all of the remaining signings other than CMB were rookie minimum guys, which isn't possible anymore now that they brought back Temple.

you have to be under tax at deadline, not start of season. lots of time to get under tax, at deadline you can dump temple or someone + cash to a team to get under tax.

I doubt they would put themselves in another Dragic-type situation and leverage themselves. But they could do something like hold onto Castleton as an extra C to fill the 15th spot for a bit, then cut him when they're right up against the tax and he'll only have a prorated dead cap hit reflecting the percentage of the season he was on the roster.

Yes they are probably going to ‘Bruno Fernando’, Castleton or hopefully someone else for a few months. Same as last year.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

Garrett Temple is going to end up being an NBA lifer. Whether that's in coaching or someone's front office or working for the league as an ambassador. He is a total professional and every team needs at least one guy like him.

See Indiana and James Johnson

They lost to one of the youngest champions ever, who didn't have a vet in that type of role..

They had Caruso.

Obviously you prefer a vet who plays. That isn’t feasible for every team.

They also might have won if Hali doesn’t tear his Achilles

No, he really wasn’t bad at all.

Despite us going 6-18 in games he played, we outscored teams with him on the floor in 12 of those games.

A bench player doesn’t have to be very good to have impact. And having one like Kelly who was a smart vet who gave us bench scoring on elite efficiency had value.

Is this guy gonna be our GM one day or something? Why does he need a roster spot, just join the staff

Temple has been the vice-president of the players association since 2017. He needs to be a player to be in that role, hence the reason he has not taken a coaching position.

He is great in the locker room, and it probably doesn’t hurt the team to have the vice-president of the players association on the team.

Also, being on a vet minimum probably pays more than an assistant coaching gig, and for the Raps benefit, the league covers a third of his pay.

A player manager type of guy is a good idea. It let's management directly have a communication line with a younger player

He can be our Udonis Haslem, and we sign him until he's 50.

Not that I really want him playing much but he actually didn’t look as washed as I expected when he did get some burn last year.

I thought Lawson had a chance at a spot but this signing might mean he is gone unless he takes Rhoden's 2 way or a consolidation trade happens.

Castleton is also likely gone but I see his roster spot as a place holder for someone else, possibly Omoruyi.

JP/Chomche(2W)
SB/CMB/Mogbo
BI/Ochai/GD
RJ/Walter/Battle/Temple/Martin
IQ/Shead/Hepburn(2W)

So there is one roster spot and one 2 way spot left between:

Omoruyi
Lawson
Castleton
Rhoden
Degenhart

or any free agent signing or other camp invites
