My only thought was this part of the deal for us passing on Ace Bailey?

They promised us Sexton for Nurkic if we didn't select Ace.

Otherwise this makes absolutely no sense for Utah lol

They added a valuable 2nd rounder too.

Is this the veteran point guard? melo insurance? or mann replacement?

Does this signal that we're going to target a veteran center in free agency? You can't go into the season with an injured grant and a moose kalk

Good point

Is a sign n trade possible for a starting center?

Good trade if we can find a big man elsewhere. Unless they plan on just throwing Kalk out there.

Either way, happy to have a legit shot creator here. especially one that's been pretty efficient for a lot of his career. He is kind of a sucky defender and playmaker, so he isn't elevating anyone, but the shot creation by itself is quite important.

Shot creator who pressures the rim and punishes double teams. Takes some heat off our #1 and #2 options.

Sexton shares #3 option with Miles.

Pretty solid offense all of a sudden.

Leads me to believe we sold Mark for his lack of rim protection. We seem to need defense while also going down a center after this trade.

Claxton stands out here.

Or Jarrett Allen.

Also he has an 11-year-old's sense of humor building an actually feasible lineup of Ball/Sex/Knipple/Tiddy/Kalk

I was down on Peterson this deal got me back believing again lol.

I don't think people realize Sexton is a DAWG. I love this trade he solves a lot of issues mainly having a lead guard in case Melo goes down with injury. They can also play together.

Peterson's best trade as GM.

Looks that way in a vacuum.

Still looks solid if he leveraged draft position 1 slot ahead of Ainge with Ace Bailey on the board.

I’ve seen him play in person 4 times. He comes out of nowhere and cooks your ass. He will also score 2 points in one half.

https://clutchpoints.com/nba/charlotte-hornets/nba-rumors-hornets-collin-sexton-trade-comes-chris-paul-revelation

according to Mark Stein the Hornets did in fact have interest in trying to bring Chris Paul home to North Carolina but I guess understood through various back channels that Chris Paul preferred to stay on the West Coast. And that's when the Hornets turned their attention to Sexton. So my guess is they do view Sexton as the backup point guard and not as more of the combo shooting guard paired next to a pg

Good trade, maybe a wash in production if we don’t bring Mann back which we shouldn’t now but at least you don’t have to sweat another back flare up

I like that Jeff is picking on the weaker Western conference teams. Dumars what are you up to this weekend?

Very good trade, could be a great trade depending on what they do next at center.

Sexton a high quality player. How much does he command for his next contract? Also, could he give the Hornets more options to deal Melo as part of a mega trade for a center? Just makes me wonder…but I don’t expect them to include Melo in any push for a 5.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Just having a guy who can dribble past his defender and put some pressure on the rim/paint for a kick out is going to be such a breath of fresh air.

He’s an expiring so I’m not convinced he’s here long term; perhaps we move him at the deadline for assets, but at the very least he can do athletic PG things and get guys like Kon, Liam, and Miller some open looks. Our Pg situation was nothing short of abysmal last year.

Solid move I think this means we are still looking to upgrade at Center as well. Curious to see the follow-up moves.

Another Alabama Crimson Tide player to join Miller on the squad.

Return to Charlotte Hornets
