That does sound like a threat.

I think this would be an awesome add if you can get him for the min. I definitely think we’re running a 10 deep rotation next year, so you’re looking at some form of this:

IQ / Shead
Barrett / Dick / Walter
Ingram / Ochai
Barnes / CMB
Poeltl / Simmons / Mogbo

You’re not asking Simmons here to be a huge minute guy or a primary offensive threat, but fill a backup role. At the minimum, he can do that and he provides some size for certain matchups. You’ve also got shooting off the bench with Dick, Walter, and Ochai so it isn’t like he’s taking those minutes - he would be taking minutes from Mogbo more than likely.

For what it’s worth, I think they will manage the minutes / games played both Poeltl and Ingram so they’re fresh for the playoffs. That means lots of minutes for the backups.

Probably hard to find a better option at the minimum. I like it

At vet min, there are worse ideas... but there are better ones.

And ANOTHER non-shooter is probably a dumbass idea.

He’s not coming here to play the backup 5 especially for the minimum.

Fans are upset because of the roster construction not because Ben Simmons isn’t worth the minimum.

I've always been a fan of Ben Simmons, how do I put it. Non superstar game. Hes extremely physical, an excellent rebounder and can guard 1 through 5. His playmaking has not gone away. He fits what the Toronto Raptors are trying to do from an identity standpoint. The idea of him regaining his confidence and some of his former form is a pipedream at this point but crazier things have happened. Hes only 28.

If we're tanking again then sure. Waste more cap space.

So, Ben Simmons?

He woudk actually be a great backup center. You’re not finding a better minimum salary guy.

I'm not sure why people would not be on board with him as a backup center.

If the idea is consistency around schemes and skills (at least on D), Barnes/CMB/Mogbo/Simmons fit the same mold of mobile, passing bigs/forwards. Same as the Thad acquisition (who just way too old in the end). Basically everyone outside of Jak and KO being slower bigs, and Precious not being a passer but fitting the rest.

Outside of KO, shooting just hasn't been a part of the equation after the Gasol/Ibaka years.

At the vet min you aren't getting those skills+shooting unfortunately.

Ben with outside shooting would be a potential max level player if he stayed healthy.

He’s as much a centre as I am.

Well he’s played and done well at center for chunks of his career. He’s a 6’10 240 pound guy.

When Embiid would go down he used to have his best stretches of his career without a center on the floor. He played center in those lineups

Better than Mogbo who is listed as a 6,6 guy and everybody´s saying he is 6,9. INCREDIBLE

Not if he wants to play. Then again, the lakers are desperate.

I’ve been a fan of Simmons for a while and I maintain he’d look good on the raptors.
