Im shocked, i thought the whole point of trading KAT was to not pay a huge salary slot after Randle expired. Wouldnt it have been a better use of money to have 2 or 3 quality role players for the money spent on just Randle. But i guess the team figured theyre pretty close and just want to run it back and hope they can knockout OKC in the West, especially with the East looking weak.

I mean, Kat will make about $23M more than Randle next year. Wolves will be about $10M under 2nd apron with Randle/Reid sign. Add Kat and they go to $13M over.

KAT makes 20+ million more than Randle. They are similar caliber players, all things considered.

He will make roughly what KAT will make next season. Essentially, for KAT, the Wolves received:

Randle
DDV
Enough flexibility to resign Naz Reid
Joan Beringer.

I don’t love Randle as a #2 on a championship team. But KAT comes with lots of questions too at a much higher price. This was a nice piece of business by Connelly.

Randle needs to figure out what type of effort he intends to play with and be consistent.

He has the ability to average double digit rebounds and to shoot 3-pointers at 40%. 7.1 rebs per game is reality!

2026 Randle was only a few seasons ago. He finished 8th in MVP voting.

As people have pointed out, that's basically what the Wolves did.

The difference between KAT and Randle is enough to fit Donte and Rob. Or you could probably argue that difference is what allowed the team to re-sign Naz.

Supposedly the Pistons or Hawks.
He is exactly what both teams need off their bench. The Hawks need him to make 100 three pointers per game at around 6 to 7 shot attempts per game.

NAWs pretty good, but expecting him to make 100 three pointers a game on only 6 or 7 shots is a tough ask. He may want above market value for that.

I don't get why that is. Yes, they will go into second apron, but just for a season, because next year Conley's contract is coming off the books. I wonder if it's because of the luxury tax.

Cause we can stay under the second apron and let loose guys like Terrence (TJ) Shannon and Jaylen Clark. Wolves have an interesting 8-13 on their roster but some of these guys (Josh Minott, Leonard Miller, TJ Shannon, Jaylen Clark and, Rob Dillingham) have either got to show out or it's time to move on. Especially Miller and Minott who are in years 3 and 4 respectively.

Wolves need to give some of these guys minutes.

Great contract but the Twolves paying Naz Reid 25 mill to come off the bench?

That's why I think a Gobert deal is extremely possible.Doesn't make a ton of sense to pay a bench player $25M or why he'd return in the role once again when he's clearly stated he's looking for a starting role. Now having Randle/Reid start at the 4/5 isn't ideal by any stretch and they didn't have the best chemistry together but maybe this is the plan to go a more offensive mind route.A Gobert deal could possible get them and upgrade at PG, a back up big and maybe a pick.

Maybe something like White & Vucevic for Gobert to the Bulls ?

More like Vuc and Pat.

Gobert is negative value on his contract. Don’t see him going anywhere. He will be there to mentor Beringer his fellow Frenchman.

Randle and Naz make combined almost what KAT does the next 3 years

Which is exactly what the poster said.

KAT makes what Randle/NAZ make combined. Trading KAT allowed Minnesota to keep both Randle, a similar caliber player as KAT, and Naz.

No. They desperately need an upgrade at the point.

38 year old Mike Conley isn’t going to take them to another WCF. Maybe trade Donte and Rob for an upgrade at the point.

A lot needs to happen for this to be a plausible outcome - PG play gets a massive up skill (whether this is Dilly or DDV jumping up levels and becoming decent PG options or we sign/trade a replacement), players like Randle, Gobert, McD and Naz having consistent years etc.

Personally, I don't think so, but the FO seems to think otherwise.

This is such a cheap contract, Wolves get lucky (or good) here.

Teams need to start letting these guys hit free agency. No way he gets anything close to this on the open market. No one really has money.
