Re: 2025 Free Agency News/Rumors
No one’s overpaying for Coby via trade. He probably won’t sign the max extension. The options are either we overpay next summer to keep him, or move him for the best offer now. I don’t expect a king’s ransom; just a good FRP or younger prospect. You see how hungry NOP is; they would’ve been the team to deal with.
I would say test and take the market’s best hot offer, cause we’ve seen this wait-and-see approach 5-too-many-times not turn out any better.
I think paying Coby $30-40M to be our #1 option next year is ludicrous. And if he plateaus yet again, I don’t see the point in signing a $15-25M starter who isn’t good enough to consistently start. I’m certain he’ll play himself into a nice contract, though. IMO he can be an excellent 3rd option (with a superstar). 2nd option is beyond his ceiling imo.
Anyhow, I fully expect him back, resigned rich.

Good it means we didn't just put out a "can't say no" offer immediately.
Patrick Williams new contract was announced hours after FA started.

Re: 2025 Free Agency News/Rumors
Looking at the deals given out so far......
I'm having a hard time envisioning Coby getting his big pay day, or Pat's deal getting easier to swallow.
Sexton and Simons were just salary dumped, and FVV took a 45% pay cut. It seems like 25 million is the new cap on productive, non-star starters.
And for all the hoopla about defense being dead, it's the swiss-army knife defenders that are getting the bag. JJJ, Naz, NAW and Kornet have made out the best so far in FA. The deals that NAW and Ty Jerome got tells you a lot about what teams are looking for.
If he doesn't reach a new level I think he's getting 20-25 million / year, and even that might be hard to find under certain circumstances. I can imagine circumstances where he's an MLE guy if the ball doesn't bounce his way.
We've been placating ourselves all year about Pat's contract by telling ourselves that it will get better over time due to the mechanics of cap mechanics......but I'm not seeing it. Lots of low impact guys are getting squashed to vet min style deals, and if Pat stays in his current funk he might become a 5 Mil AAV guy in one more year.

And if Pat were to re-enter FA agency after his rookie contract this offseason ..... I don't see him topping 13 million AAV. It's of course worse now with the season he just had.
Yep. People freaking out about nothing.

SGA signed 4 year extension for 285m.
That's 71m per...

And it forces parity. No one team can have too many good players. The concept seems solid but the execution...I don't know.

Logically it will, but he actually has to produce. If he returns to an efficient 3 pt shooter who defends like he did earlier in his career, that deal looks much easier to move. The main issue is last year he was absolute buns. Pat being buns = really tough contract.
Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

Gotta be smart with money. Reminds me of trying to win the Superbowl with good players on rookie contracts.

For years, a segment of NBA fans wondered what the league would be like with some sort of hard cap, and here we are. There's parity and a redistribution of talent from contenders to other teams.
It's bad for dynasties and long-term rivalries, but good for creating a product that feels like every team can eventually become relevant and win.

I like it. Destroys the super team friends garbage created by Lebron
