The Knicks have also checked in on free agent Ben Simmons, per sources familiar with the matter. But people briefed on the matter say a decision on that roster spot isn’t expected until after the head coach is hired.

Shame that Thibs is gone. Would have loved to see him pull out his last ten hairs coaching Simmons.

Wouldn't be the worst signing in the world especially considering they just signed Jordan Clarkson. Simmons as a backup ball handler/defender swinging the rock to Clarkson, McBride and Yabusele for the second unit offense. Not to mention Josh Hart likes to get downhill and get out in transition. Simmons is still one of the best outlet passers in the league.

For a vet minimum? I mean the guy is easily waivable if he sucks. Don't really see what's the big deal about bringing him to training camp and seeing if he can bring anything useful. Seems like a low-risk move.

For all of this faults, Simmons is an excellent defender and distributor when healthy. This could be a great buy-low move that has a very little downside.

He's now a vet min player. No need to crap on him anymore. He's worth that currently and if he has flashes of him old self then thats fine but not expected.
