If thats all you can do and youre a bad defender like Duncan, dont impact rebounding, passing, cant handle or make plays, score in any other ways besides 3s created for you youre a liability come playoffs. Weve seen it time and time again.
It's really not a horrible contract considering:
1. Only the 1st year and part of the 2nd are guaranteed. The back half of the 2nd year and 3rd year are only to make it eligible for a S&T deal.
2. We gave up a 2 year, 8 million dollar/yr contract (16 million total) of a player permanently on our bench (Fontecchio) in return
So from the Pistons perspective they pay something like 4 million additionally (20 million total) to get help filling a spot up shooting void left by Beasley for the next year.
Robinson isn't going to be retained for years 2 or 3 of the contract unless something magical happens. His contract can also be a nice 'expiring' contract used to facilitate a future trade.
The guy isn't the first option but it's not nearly as bad as some folks are making this out to be who are only looking at surface numbers.
