So it really doesn't matter if Jays win the East. All we have to do to basically guarantee a wild card spot is play .500 ball the rest of the way, taking us to 88-89 wins. With pitcher pick ups at the deadline and returns from the IR, that seems doable.

Also, Houston and Detroit have the second- and fourth-easiest remaining schedules in the league the rest of the way.

At full health, they are better than the underlying numbers suggest. They still badly need another good SP to take them seriously as a contender though.

Not feeling overly confident in Scherzer. He was always a gamble, and we are seeing that gamble not working out yet. Maybe Manoah makes it back and turn the career around in August?

Honestly, even if he only makes ~16 appearances I'm still glad we signed him. The mentorship that he's giving to the pitching staff is invaluable as well.

I mean, as of right now, we're closer to overtaking the Astros than of having the Yankees or the Rays overtake us.

Lots of baseball left to play, but that applies to Houston as much as it does to us, so I'm not taking anything, good or bad, for granted.

What if the Yankees just aren't as good as they showed early? Their offense carried them early in the season.
