I dunno if his agent is really bad, ir if Herb just wants security and continuity early. I think he was gonna expire at age 28 after taking a bargain deal to begin with. He’s have been a highly sought after archetype in a quickly rising salary environment.

I can admit I was wrong here. I didn't think he would sign an extension (because this seems like well below his market value), but the injury might have spooked him. Good for New Orleans though, Herb is that dude.

Atlanta hawks getting a top 5 pick next year.

As usual with the Pels, a lot will come down to health. Just two years ago they had 49 wins. Last year everyone was hurt.

2 years ago they had a much better squad.

It’s true injuries did play a big role but I liked the fit of that squad 2 seasons ago much better than now.

CJ McCollum/Jose Alvarado
Herb Jones/Dyson Daniels
Brandon Ingram/Trey Murphy
Zion Williamson/Larry Nance Jr
Valanciunas/Jaxson Hayes

Is just a much better combination of high impact veterans mixed with young athletic talent and defense imo. DeJounte, Poole, Fears, Hawkins, Zion and Queen just seems like a ton of high volume one way skill overlap and possible over-reliance on Rookie production. There’s some talent there but the fit just seems iffy.

Looking at their roster I can't believe they actually traded their first rounder next year.

I mean, there was no reason to think you wouldn’t be right. After watching some of the deals the last few years, there is no way he doesn’t get paid.

The beautiful part is that 3/68 would be good value even in today’s cap, but he still has 2 years left at 13 and 14 mill. He’s gonna be starting at around 20 mill when the cap is a few seasons higher.

I’m super stoked, he’s rhe main guy I hope is a lifer.

i mean they better believe in every single one of those current players badly, cause they gave away a chance at AJ and company next draft

If his shooting last season was an outlier then maybe this isn't such a bad contract

Bold predictions: Murphy will be better than Ingram this year, and better for the squad. Poole is basically a redo of Mccollum in terms of impact and style, but he’s younger and more open to taking a smaller role.

The big question marks to me is can the bigs fill that Valanciunas hole. But at the time everyone was saying Val was a horrible fit and a huge liability, but since he’s off the Pels, they love him now lol.

Zion plays 60-70 evrry so often, so he’s due up

But yea, if all of our starters play between 15 and 50 games again, y’all will be right. Talent won’t be the issue.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion but I have to push back a little on that previous team construction. First off, most were low on that Pels team before that season because they thought too many people needed the ball and no one but Herb played defense. However the Pels played great defense all year. They had top 6 defense. I think Willie can get the most out of a healthy team defensively.

Also the starters fit better together than that group. Way more shooting by replacing Ingram with Trey, and both Looney and Missi are a cleaner fit with Zion, who I think will handle the ball more this year.

Also I think it would be great if the rookies pop but it’s not necessary. Both Fears and Queen have vets in Jose and Looney that can fill in for their minutes.

I’m way more optimistic than the 31.5 over under and could definitely see this team make the playoffs depending on both their health and the health of the other teams.

Well, Dumars clearly agrees with you and bet the over HARD. We’ll see how it plays out.

If fully healthy, lineup would likely be:

PG- Murray/ Fears/ Jose
SG- Herb/ Poole/ Hawkins
SF- Murphy/ Bey/ Peavy
PF- Zion/ Queen/ Matkovic
C- Missi/ Looney/ Dickinson

And that’s a very very strong roster. Calling that anything close to bottom five in the league is absurd. Now “healthy roster” is not something we are familiar with soooo.

Trey and Herb are locked up for around 40 mill combined for the next 2 years, and barely over 50 for the 2 years after that.

Is it Joe Dumars or Troy Weaver who is behind the Pelicans trades and draft night picks ? I am a bit confused about that, but i am happy Herb is staying loyal to The Pelicans.

But yes the Pels have been decimated by injury in what seems like every season in forever.

If they finally get a kind run of injury, they will be better than what everyone thinks next season

Dumars (and ownership) has final say unless he’s just asleep at the wheel. Weaver is GM.

I would have to think that both Zion Williamson and Dejounte Murray are both on the block.

No one is offering anything of substance for Zion. If they want to move him, it’s gonna be not impressive.

I hear you. As a GM, if I feel like if said player is not a clear cut #1 option or a championship #2, always be open to trades especially when the player’s trade value is at its highest peak.

During Zion’s second season (IIRC his first all star appearance), I couldn’t even see his eyes cause he’s smiling so much talking playing in NY. I would trade his ass right then and there; most importantly, every player/pick on the Knicks would have been available.

No one is giving impact players for him. He looks out of shape already from a recent photo and has still some pending legal issues.

Actually what NOP is looking for in return when they trade away Zion and Murray? Pure salary dump?

Great deal.

If Miami wants to go the 2027 FA route, these teams should do:

Poole + Missi + lots of picks for Adebayo.

Adebayo
Zion
Herb
Tre
Murray

Could be the #1 defense in the NBA.

I think Herb might be a little overrated here because of an outlier shooting season a year ago, but even if he's a 35% shooter this is a good contract. Of course if the next 3 years are more like 2025 then it's a disaster. Good for Herb though, I'm always happy for guys that seem to like where they're at and aren't trying to necessarily maximize every last dollar
