He had good stats but he was being guarded by a cast of guys who have close to zero percent chance of making an NBA roster today. I still worry about his lateral agility and quickness. He may not be Doug McDermott exactly, but he might be a distant cousin.

My issue with Kon is just where he was drafted. I just think if you’re going to take someone top 5, they should have a very high ceiling, or a ridiculously high floor.

I just don’t think that is Kon. I think his floor is Luke Kennard. A very efficient scoring bench guard, who can also do some playmaking from being crafty and smart. But not a legit playmaker because the lack of dynamic handle and athleticism.

I don’t think Kon busts, but I think most likely he ends up in that solid starter to bench scorer role. I just don’t see any scenario where he becomes a star player. And to me that’s just not worth a top 5 pick.

With all that said, I loved watching him at Duke and will be rooting for him.

Filipowski is the kind of guy that is stuck on tanking teams during his rookie deal. Then gets dealt when the tanking team makes a big move. Then once he’s in his mid 20s he ends up on a good team and becomes a really solid contributor. And people will say, “how did this guy go under the radar for so long”.

Not a star, but will be one of those guys every team would love as a starter big on a stacked team, or the first big off the bench.
